Nikkei average in Tokyo dropped 2.1% and iron and steel sector led the decliners after two manufacturing surveys in China showed the sector remains in the contraction phase. Nissan Motor said first-half sales increased 15% and net soared 37%. LIXIL estimated annual net sales to increased 11%.

Market indexes on Wall Street closed down after consumer spending in September registered its smallest increase in eight months. Crude oil in New York and in London gained 2%. S&P 500 index soared 8% and erased all of the summer month decline taking the benchmark to 1% increase in the year so far.

Nikkei average extended weekly gain on Friday to 1.4% and jumped nearly 9% in the month. Daiichi Sankyo and Takeda Pharmaceutical estimated higher annual sales but quarterly earnings quality were lower-than-expected. NTT DoCoMo first-half sales rose only 1.9%.
