Nikkei average in Tokyo closed higher in quiet trading and industrial output in September rose 1%. Sony Corp estimated annual sales to decline less-than-expected 3.8% and forecasted net profit. Nippon Steel said first-half sales decreased 10% and estimated annual net sales to fall 11%.

Australian Markets Drop 1%, Export Price Index Falls 5.2%

Australian Dollar Drops 1% on Softer Third-Quarter Inflation

Australian dollar declined 1% after the third-quarter inflation slowed to 0.5% from the second-quarter and annual inflation rate was 1.5%. Core inflation that excludes volatile food and energy prices also was lower than expected knocking all hopes of a rate hike in the near term.
