A surge in exports in March lifted trade surplus in Japan for the month and for the year. The surplus for the fiscal year rose to 5.2 trillion yen from a deficit of 64.8 billion yen last year. Hitachi Ltd quarterly sales surged 42%. Rating agency lowered its view on Toyota debt with a negative view.

Revenue rose 11% to $2.5 billion and net income rose 0.3% to $306 million or 78 cents a share. Operating income of $634 million up 21% from the prior period and a 230 basis point improvement in operating ratio to a 1st quarter record of 74.5%.

Revenues fell 4.7% to $36.6 billion & net income fell 32% to $1.87 billion or 17 cents a share. Total cash flow from operating activities was $2.6 billion. Tax credits were down $530 million year-over-year & mostly offset by lower credit losses of about $375 million & $100 million of lower costs.
