Banks and natural resource stocks climbed in Europe after investors turned optimistic. Maurel & Prom SA advanced 4.2% after it discovered oil in Gabon. Vivalis signs a new commercial license in veterinary vaccine field. Bank Sarasin & Cie. AG said it will exceed its lending target this year.

UK stocks participated as world markets rebounded. Metals and energy prices advanced in London. Mortgage approvals in November surged to a two-year high. Service industry index declined 0.2% in the three months to October.

Stocks Waver; New Home Sales Drop 11.3%

U.S. stock traded mixed after November new home sales dropped 11.3% and personal income increased 0.4%. Crude oil futures surged 3% after the release of weekly inventory data. India revised its fiscal year economic growth outlook to 8% from 6.5%.

BHP Billiton after the close agreed to sell its nickel mining holdings to its joint venture partner in Philippines. GrainCorp Ltd declined after the company said profits are likely to be lower than estimated. Gold stocks fell on a rebound in the U.S. dollar.

UK GDP Decline Revised; Hardy Oil Surges

UK GDP decline in the third quarter was revised to 0.2% from the previous estimate of 0.3% and third quarter unemployment rate increased to 7.8%. Hardy Oil and Gas Plc in partnership with Reliance in India discovered third natural gas field in the Bay of Bengal offshore field.

Reliance Industries discovered third gas field in Bay of Bengal field that may be as large as the first field of 10 trillion cubic feet. U.S. stocks futures turned lower after the release of third GDP estimate for the third quarter. Weaker than expected inventories and construction investments and higher than expected deceleration in government spending affected the GDP estimate.
