Australian index closed higher after a rollercoaster ride and Reserve Bank of Australian left its key lending rate at record low 2.5%. The rates have been held for nine months in a row. March trade surplus narrowed but iron ore exports rose.

Australian stocks closed slightly higher in a quiet trading ahead of RBA meeting tomorrow. The central bank is expected keep record low interest rates as building approvals contracted 3.5% in March. Westpac Banking Corp reported quarterly net income increased 10%.

U.S. stocks failed to build on the better-than-expected monthly payrolls increase in April. Employers at all levels added 288,000 jobs and March increase was revised higher to 203,000. However, labor participation rate declined to 35-year low of 62.8%.
