Market indexes in Australia gained for the fifth day in a row. The global markets rebound on Friday extended weeklong market advance in Australia, but in thin volume. The Australian government is set to raise as much as $5.5 billion through the public offering of Medibank.

Topix Enters Correction with Loss of 11%

Japanese stocks plunged and the Topix index entered into a correction. Topix dropped 2.3% and extended loss to 11% from the September 25. The yen gained 0.2%. Japan Display plunged 18% after the company estimated annual loss.

Australian market indexes managed to shake-off morning losses in active trading following wild swings in the U.S. and European markets. Crude oil continued to slide in international markets and Aussie dollar closed below 88 U.S. cents. Banks led the gainers.

Australian market indexes recovered some of the weekly losses and motor vehicles sales in September increased 2.9%. China reported lower than expected inflation of 1.6% in September. Rio Tinto said iron ore shipment in September quarter increased 15%.
