Indexes in Germany, France Down

    European markets declined as most indexes in the region have surged between 20% and 25%. The nuclear reactor maker Areva SA is in discussion with California based energy group to build two plants. Euromedis Groupe first quarter sales increased 11%.

European markets edged lower in slow trading. The benchmark index in Germany gained 24% for the year and lost 14% in the last decade and the index in Paris increased 22% for the year.

In London FTSE 100 Index closed lower 39.75 or 0.73% to 5,397.86, in Paris CAC 40 Index decreased 24.48 or 0.62% to close at 3,935.50, in Frankfurt DAX index lower 54.12 or 0.90% to close at 5,957.43. In Zurich trading SMI decreased 62.61 or 0.95% to close at 6,545.91.

Gainers & Losers

Areva SA decreased 0.3% to €350.80 after the maker of nuclear reactors said Fresno Nuclear Energy Group plans to build one or two nuclear reactors in California''s central valley.

Eiffage SA declined 0.08% to €39.17 and the construction company completed the acquisition of Heijmans N.V. has completed its sale of Heitkamp Rail gmbh and Heijmans Rail.

Euromedis Groupe SA the medical-supplies distributor increased 9.3% to €4.22 after it reported first quarter revenue increase of 11% and estimated full year sales increase of 10%.

Hugo Boss AG rose 0.9% to €24.73 after the clothing maker said it would close its Cleveland, Ohio factory and lay-off 300 workers.

Lafarge S.A fell 0.3% to €57.97.

Schmack Biogas AG closed unchanged at €0.44.

Siemens AG rose 0.1% to Rs 64.91 and the company received an order for €580 million from Russian Railways for a total of 54 regional trains for 2014 winter Olympics in Sochi.

Theolia SA climbed 1.6% to €3.08 after the wind-power producer said it has sold wind power assets in France with a capacity of 47 megawatts to Canada''s Boralex Inc.

Vivacon AG increased 2.6% to €0.79 after it sold properties to Immovation Immobilien Handles AG as it restructures its balance sheet and raises capital to pay lenders.

Volkswagen AG the carmaker fell 0.4% to €77.04.

DAX Index Movers

Deutsche Bank AG led the decliners in the DAX index of 2.33%, followed by losses in Deutsche Post AG of 2.07%, in Adidas AG of 1.69%, in Diamler AG of 1.38%, and in Deutsche Telekom AG of 1.29%.

Fresenius SE led gainers in the DAX index with a rise of 0.91% followed by increase in Linde AG of 0.67%, in Deutsche Boerse AG of 0.61%, in SAP AG of 0.52%, and in MAN SE of 0.35%.

CAC-40 Index Movers

Sanofi-Aventis led the decliners in the CAC-40 index of 1.59%, followed by losses in Lagardere SCA of 1.50%, in BNP Paribas SA of 1.38%, in ArcelorMittal of 1.15%, and in AXA of 1.07%.

Unibail-Rodamco SA gainers in the CAC-40 index with a rise of 1.47% followed by gainers in Pernod Ricard SA of 0.65%, in Alcatel Lucent of 0.65%, in Carrefour SA of 0.63%, and in Suez Environnement SA of 0.59%.

FTSE 100 Index Movers

Of the stocks in the FTSE 100 index, 21 increased, 74 declined and 7 were unchanged.

The Royal Bank of Scotland Group Plc decliners in the FTSE 100 index with a loss of 3.20% followed by losses in Johnson Matthey Plc of 2.19%, in Standard Chartered Plc of 2.08%, in Randgold Resources Ltd. of 1.93%, and in Liberty International Plc of 1.86%.

Petrofac Limited led gainers in the FTSE 100 index with a rise of 1.88% followed by increase in Cairn Energy Plc of 0.58%, in The British Land Company Plc of 0.56%, in 3i Group Plc of 0.54%, and in Centrica Plc of 0.53%.
