ICX, OSI Systems Rise; CareFusion, Trico Fall

    Banks and retailers were among the most active stocks in New York. Security technology related stocks surged after a failed terrorist attempt to explode a device on a flight. CareFusion declined after the parent Cardinal Health plans to sell more stocks. Trico Marine Services guided earnings lower.

Of the stocks in S&P 500 index, 192 increased, 289 declined and 19 were unchanged.

CareFusion Corporation led the decliners in the S&P 500 index with a loss of 2.4% followed by losses in American International Group, Inc of 1.6% and in AK Steel Holding Corporation of 1.6%, in SunTrust Banks, Inc of 1.4% and in Amazon.com, Inc of 1.4%.

JDS Uniphase Corporation led gainers in the S&P 500 index with a rise of 1.6% followed by gains in Lennar Corporation 1.6%, in L-3 Communications Holdings, Inc of 1.5% and in SanDisk Corporation of 1.5%.

Other Movers

American International Group, Inc ((AIG)) the troubled insurer slipped 2.6% or 84 cents to $30.82.

CareFusion Corporation ((CFN)) the global medical technology company dropped 2.7% or 72 cents to $25.17 after the company said its parent Cardinal Health Inc is planning sell as many as 35.9 million shares.

China BAK Battery, Inc ((CBAK)) the manufacturer of rechargeable lithium-based battery cells plunged 19.7% or 72 cents to $2.92. The stock declined after chief financial officer said that the company has not received any orders from Google Inc. In the previous session the stock had surged 63% on the speculation.

ICX Technologies, Inc ((ICXT)) soared 27.3% to $8.02 on five times the average daily volume. The homeland security sensor technologies maker was up after a terrorist attempt to explode a device on a flight on December 25.

JDS Uniphase Corporation ((JDSU)) the provider of communications test and measurement solutions rose 2.5% or 21 cents to $8.54.

Kforce Inc ((KFRC)) surged 15.8% or $1.82 to $13.29 after the recruitment firm said that it has entered into an administrative agreement with the Department of Interior that terminates the December 15 suspension of the company from participating in new Federal government business.

L-3 Communications Holdings, Inc ((LLL)) the contractor in aircraft contractor rose 1.5% or $1.31 to $88.49.

Lennar Corporation ((LEN)) a home builder edged up 0.3% or 5 cents to $12.89.

OSI Systems, Inc ((OSIS)) increased 10.7% or $2.65 to $27.71 on the speculation that the terrorist attempt to explode a device on a flight bound to Detroit on December 25 may lead to tighter inspection. OSI sells detection and screening equipment.

Pfizer Inc ((PFE)) fell 0.1% or 3 cents to $18.53 and the company terminated its Phase 3 trial for the investigation compound to treat lung cancer.

Tessera Technologies, Inc ((TSRA)) plunged 10.9% or $2.61 to $21.28 announced today the International Trade Commission issued a notice of its final determination in the action brought by Tessera against certain DRAM manufacturers, affirming that Tessera''s three asserted patents are valid. The ruling denies the company from collecting licensing revenue from computer makers.

Trico Marine Services Inc ((TRMA)) dropped 14% to $4.54 after the company said fourth quarter earnings will be lowered after it plan to take between $110 million and $130 million in impairment charges related to ship building contract cancellation in India. The company also said that low utilization of vessels will also hurt earnings in the current quarter.
