Among the gainers, semiconductor stocks were Altera Corp, ATI technologies, Maxim Integrated, Nvidia and PMC-Sierra. Philadelphia Semiconductor index is up 1.26%.
Home builder stocks are on decline after Standard Pacific reported declining first quarter sales.
