More Students Attacked In Australia

The racially motivated attacks against Indian students continue as the latest violence hurt four Indian nationals. At least five people were involved in the incidence and as many as 15 watched while the attacks were carried out. Callers to Indian media are urging students to fight back.

The latest violent incident against Indian students was reported in Melbourne in the north-east are of Epping.

The attack that left four injured that occurred in a bar when at least 15 to 20 people watched the attack when as many as five people participated in the attack. The racial remarks continued even after Police arrived. Police arrested two people but released them after initial questioning.

The attacks come just ahead of Victoria Premier John Brumby’s trip to India to convince the Indian government that Melbourne is a safe place to send students.

In his comments to reports he said that he would not talk the recent attack but stressed that any violence, racially motivated or otherwise is not acceptable.

Brumby will not say what specific steps that his government has taken to ensure the safeguard of foreign nationals and would not comments why these attacks are still continuing after three months.

Australian reputation is damaged after a series of attacks against Indian students this summer that left more than 1,400 people injured over two months. Despite the series of attacks Australian government has still not convicted a single person for racially motivated attacks.

Foreign students generate third largest export revenue for Australia and Indian students are the second largest group after Chinese students. Australia has repeatedly denied that these attacks are racially motivated but as attacks grow more people around the world are questioning Australian government response and lack of conviction for the attackers.
