Net income in the quarter rose 50.4% to $567 million or $1.69 per diluted share compared to net income of $377 million or $1.10 per share a year ago.
Aetna Inc ((AET)) fell 5.7% or $1.49 to $22.91 after the specialty metals and plastics distribution company reported first quarter revenues rose 11% to $8.6 billion from $7.74 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 1.4% to $437.8 million or 95 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $431.6 million or 85 cents per share a year ago.
American Campus Communities, Inc ((ACC)) added 4.0% or 84 cents to $21.84 after the equity real estate investment trust said first quarter revenues rose 87.6% to $77.7 million from $41.4 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 94% to $0.3 million or 1 cent per diluted share compared to net income of $4.9 million or 18 cents per share a year ago.
Arthur J. Gallagher & Co ((AJG)) added 5.5% or $1.05 to $20.10 an international insurance brokerage and risk management services firm said first quarter revenues rose 6.7% to $401.1 million from $375.8 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter was $26.4 million or 27 cents per diluted share compared to net loss of $6.0 million or 7 cents per share a year ago.
ArcelorMittal ((MT)) dropped 3.9% or 94 cents to $23.12 after the world’s biggest steelmaker reported first quarter revenues fell 49% to $15.1 billion from $29.8 billion. Net loss in the quarter was $1.06 billion or 78 cents per diluted share compared to net profit of $2.37 billion or $1.68 per share a year ago.
ASM International N.V ((ASMI)) rose 3.2% or 34 cents to $10.92 a Dutch semiconductor equipment maker said first quarter sales fell 55% to €89.1 million from €197.1 million a year ago. Net loss in the quarter was €23.3 million or €0.45 per diluted share compared to net income of €12.6 million or €0.22 per share a year ago.
Banco Santander SA ((STD)) climbed 6.4% or 54 cents to $8.90 after the Spain''s biggest bank reported first quarter net interest income rose 22% to €6.23 billion from €5.10 billion. Net income in the quarter fell 5% to €2.10 billion or €0.2460 per diluted share compared to net profit of €2.21 billion or €0.3066 per share a year ago.
China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation ((SNP)) surged 3.8% or $2.82 to $76.64 after Asia’s biggest refiner reported first quarter revenues fell 2.6% to Rmb 228.59 billion from Rmb 332.01 billion a year ago. Net profit in the quarter rose 85% to Rmb 11.22 billion or Rmb 0.129 per diluted share compared to net income of Rmb 6.06 billion or Rmb 0.043 per share a year ago.
Coca-Cola FEMSA, S.A.B. de C.V ((KOF)) increased 6.6% or $2.39 to $38.37 after the largest coca cola bottler in Latin America reported first quarter revenues rose 30.5% to Mexican Ps.22,526 million from Ps.17,257 million a year ago. Net profit in the quarter fell 18.1% to Ps.1,327 million or Ps. 2.87 per diluted share compared to net profit of Ps.1,621 million or Ps. 3.95 per share a year ago.
Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation ((COG)) rose 8.3% or $2.41 to $31.20 after the Houston-based natural-gas explorer announced another successful horizontal well production and updated plans for East Texas.
Dendreon Corporation ((DNDN)) rose 107.8% or $12.74 to $24.55 a biotechnology company released widely-anticipated data from a Phase III clinical study that showed Provenge extended the lives of men with advanced prostate cancer by an average of 4.1 months.
DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc ((DWA)) climbed 22.7% or $4.31 to $22.36 after the maker of “Shrek” movies posted a first quarter profit that widely exceeded analysts’ expectations. Reported earnings of 71 cents per share on sales of $263 million where analysts polled by Thomson Reuters were looking for 45 cents on $212 million.
Mercury Computer Systems, Inc ((MRCY)) climbed 4.3% or 28 cents to $6.69 a computer signal and image processing systems maker said third quarter revenues fell 0.2% to $50.6 million from $50.7 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter was $8.15 million or 36 cents per diluted share compared to net loss of $5.64 million or 26 cents per share a year ago.
Panera Bread Company ((PNRA)) dropped 8.3% or $5.23 to $57.70 after the bakery-cafe chain said first quarter revenues rose 5% to $320.7 million from $305 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 40.3% to $17.4 million or 57 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $12.4 million or 41 cents per share a year ago.
Peet''s Coffee & Tea, Inc ((PEET)) jumped 5.9% or $1.38 to $24.52 a gourmet coffee chain said first quarter revenues rose 7% to $72.1 million from $67.1 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 63% to $86 million or 35 cents per diluted share compared to net profit of $231 million or 91 cents per share a year ago.
Time Warner Cable Inc ((TWC)) rose 4.8% or $1.32 to $28.57 after the cable operator reported first quarter revenues rose 5% to $4.36 billion from $4.16 billion. Net income in the quarter fell 32% to $164 million or 48 cents per diluted share compared to net profit of $242 million or 74 cents per share a year ago.
V.F. Corporation ((VFC)) dropped 8.2% or $0.53 to $61.75 after the apparel maker said first quarter revenues fell 7% to $1.73 billion from $1.85 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 33% to $100.4 million or 91 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $148.9 million or $1.33 per share a year ago.
Wyndham Worldwide Corporation ((WYN)) added 13.0% or $1.14 to $9.90 after the hotel and resort operator reported first quarter revenues fell 11% to $901 million from $1.01 billion. Net income in the quarter rose 7% to $45 million or 25 cents per diluted share compared to net profit of $42 million or 24 cents per share a year ago.
