European Banks Lead Indexes Higher

Major European bourses advanced on Monday with stocks closing higher across the board. Banks led gainers in the region on hopes that the governments of developed nations will approve more capital to purchase illiquid securities. UBS is expected to eliminate additional 5,000 jobs.
Europe Markets Review
In London FTSE 100 Index closed higher 110.31, or 2.94%, to 3,863.99. In Paris, CAC 40 Index increased 86.03, or 3.18%, to close at 2,791.66, and in Frankfurt DAX index higher 90.94, or 2.30%, to close at 4,044.54. In Zurich trading SMI increased 89.69, or 1.90%, to close at 4,816.43.
