Centex Corporation led the decliners in the S&P 500 index with a loss of 11.0% followed by losses in HCP, Inc of 9.6%, in KB Home of 9.9%, in Lennar Corporation of 10.4%, in Masco Corporation of 9.9%.
The Coca-Cola Company led gainers in the S&P 500 index with a rise of 4.3% followed by gains in Life Technologies Corp of 5.9%, in Sprint Nextel Corporation of 4.2% and Teradata Corporation of 6.9%.

Aetna Inc ((AET)) gained 5.4% or $1.76 to $34.00 after the health insurer reported fourth quarter revenues rose 12% to $8.0 billion from $7.2 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 57% to $194.7 million or 42 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $448.4 million or 87 cents per share a year ago.
Asiainfo Holdings, Inc ((ASIA)) added 6.7% or 69 cents to $10.97 after the provider of telecom software solutions and IT security products and services in China said fourth quarter revenues rose 31.6% to $53.7 million from $40.8 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 74% to $2.2 million or 5 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $8.5 million or 15 cents per share a year ago.
Activision Blizzard Inc ((ATVI)) fell 4.8% or 46 cents to $9.02 after the video-game maker said first quarter profit excluding some items will be 3 cents a share.
American Italian Pasta Company ((AIPC)) rose 15.5% or $4.21 to $30.95 after the maker of dry pasta reported earning $26 million or $1.23 per share for the three months ending January 2. By comparison, the company earned $1.4 million or 7 cents per share during the same period a year ago.
BorgWarner Inc ((BWA)) rose 4.1% or 79 cents to $19.68 after the global supplier of engineered systems and components for vehicle powertrain applications worldwide reported fourth quarter sales fell 32% to $931.5 million from $1.4 billion a year ago. Net loss in the quarter was $81.4 million or 70 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $71.2 million or 60 cents per share a year ago.
Buffalo Wild Wings, Inc ((BWLD)) added 26.4% or $5.79 to $27.70 after the restaurant chain fourth quarter net income grew 29% as recorded strong growth at its company owned stores.
Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc ((CMG)) rose 8.5% or $4.03 to $51.45 after the restaurant chain's said fourth quarter revenues rose 19.5% to $345.3 million from $288.9 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 3% to $17.0 million or 52 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $17.5 million or 53 cents per share a year ago.
The Coca-Cola Company ((KO)) rose 3.3% or $1.40 to $42.67 after the world's biggest soft drink maker reported fourth quarter revenues fell 3% to $7.13 billion from $7.33 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 18% to $995 million or 43 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $1.21 billion or 52 cents per share a year ago.
Diageo plc ((DEO)) fell 5.4% or $2.92 to $49.87 after the world’s biggest liquor maker cut its annual profit forecast on slowing sales of spirit and liquor.
Gildan Activewear Inc ((GIL)) fell 25.1% or $2.57 to $7.65 after the North America’s biggest T-shirt maker reported first quarter earnings per share of 4 cents, 1 cent better than the analyst estimate of 3 cents. The revenues for the quarter were $184 million and company declined to give outlook for the rest of the year.
JA Solar Holdings Co., Ltd ((JASO)) dropped 11.2% or 34 cents to $2.67 after the Chinese solar-cell manufacturer lowered 2009 revenue guidance to between $830 million and 952 million down from the earlier projection of $1.5 billion to 1.7 billion announced in November 2008.
Kohl’s Corporation ((KSS)) fell 5.4% or $2.06 to $35.87 after department-store chain was cut to “sell” from “neutral” at Goldman Sachs Group Inc.
NovaMed, Inc ((NOVA)) jumped 4.5% or 12 cents to $2.77 after the health care services company reported fourth quarter revenues rose 8.7% to $36.2 million from $33.3 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter was $2.4 million or 10 cents per diluted share compared to net loss of $10.5 million or 42 cents per share a year ago.
Patni Computer Systems Limited ((PTI)) plunged 3.3% or 20 cents to $5.80 after the provider of information technology services reported fourth quarter revenues rose 1.3% to $176.4 million from $174.1 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 36.4% to $16.1 million or 12 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $25.3 million or 18 cents per share a year ago.
Potlatch Corporation ((PCH)) surged 6.6% or $1.73 to $27.90 after the real estate investment trust reported fourth quarter revenues fell 8% to $93.6 million from $101.7 million a year ago. Net loss in the quarter was $4.3 million or 11 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $11.2 million or 28 cents per share a year ago.
Stifel Financial Corp ((SF)) climbed 3.0% or $1.11 to $37.46 after the financial services company reported fourth quarter revenues rose 8% to $228.2 million from $212.2 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 29% to $17.8 million or 59 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $13.8 million or 51 cents per share a year ago.
Strayer Education, Inc ((STRA)) dropped 17.9% or $40.42 to $185.68 after the for-profit provider of university Courses Company sees first quarter 2009 earnings per share to be in the range of $1.96 and $1.98 versus consensus estimates of $1.99. Strayer said winter 2009 total enrollments are up 22% versus same period last year.
Teradata Corporation ((TDC)) jumped 7.9% or $1.05 to $14.21 after the world’s largest company solely focused on data warehousing and enterprise analytics reported fourth quarter revenues rose 6% to $493 million from $466 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter was flat $79 million or 45 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $79 million or 43 cents per share a year ago.
Terex Corporation ((TEX)) slumped 26.4% or $3.60 to $10.02 after the world’s third-biggest maker of construction equipment reported a fourth quarter net loss and warned that it could violate a credit covenant before the end of the current quarter. The company also estimated sales would fall between 30% and 35%.
Willis Group Holdings Limited ((WSH)) gained 3.0% or 58 cents to $22.37 after the third largest global insurance broker said fourth quarter revenues rose 25% to $799 million from $639 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 34.8% to $62 million or 37 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $95 million or 66 cents per share a year ago.
Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc ((WINN)) gained 5.0% or 57 cents to $11.97 after the grocery store chain reports second quarter loss of 5 cents ex-items, 1 cent better than the analyst estimate of ($0.06). Revenue for the quarter was $2.3 billion versus the consensus of $2.26 billion.
Zymogenetics, Inc ((ZGEN)) climbed 6.2% or 31 cents to $5.30 after the biopharmaceutical company said fourth quarter revenues rose 75.6% to $36.0 million from $20.5 million a year ago. Net loss in the quarter was $9.2 million or 13 cents per diluted share compared to net loss of $38.6 million or 56 cents per share a year ago.
