China's Ministry of Finance announced a 300 billion yuan, or $44.25 billion, special treasury bond issuance to support eight state-owned financial institutions in replenishing their core Tier 1 capital.

This funding package is part of the country's broader financial-sector recapitalization aimed at shoring up system resilience, sustaining credit growth, and supporting economic activity as expansion slows.

The country's largest financial-sector recapitalization in nearly two decades aims to strengthen balance sheets and support strengthening balance sheets and supporting credit growth amid a slowing economy.

The effort targets major entities, including the Agricultural Bank of China and the Industrial & Commercial Bank of China.

The Agricultural Bank of China plans to raise up to 160 billion yuan, and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China plans to raise up to 100 billion yuan.

In a separate liquidity operation earlier in June 2026, the People's Bank of China also utilized a 300 billion yuan overnight reverse repo to smooth quarter-end liquidity crunches.
