eBay Net Drops 29% on 4% Revenues Fall

    eBay second quarter revenues declined 4% and net income fell 29% to $327.3 million or 25 cents a share. Skype added more than 37 million users. The company guided third quarter earnings between 22 cents and 24 cents a share.

eBay Inc ((EBAY)) reported revenues declined 4% to $2.1 billion on strong dollar modest declines in market place business offsetting the gains in Skype and Pay Pal revenues.

Earnings in the quarter declined 29% to $327.3 million or 25 cents a share compared to $460 million or 35 cents a share.

In the payment business unit, the active registered users increased 20% to 75.4 million. Net total payment volume increased 12% to $16.71 billion generating $669.3 million in revenues for eBay, 11% increase from a year ago.

The marketplace business unit that include eBay, StubHub.com, Shopping.com and Kijiji and other commerce sited recorded revenues decline of 14% to $1.26 billion. Approximately 57% of the revenues are generated outside the U.S. and gross merchandise volume was $11.3 billion, a fall of 10% from a year ago.

Revenues at its Skype unit increased 25% from a year ago to $170 million. Registered users increased 42% to 481 million and Skype to Skype minutes increased 72% to 25 billion minutes. Skype Out minutes increased 67% to 3 billion minutes.

The company guided third quarter revenues between $2.05 billion and $2.15 billion and adjusted earnings between 34 cents and 36 cents a share.
