Dollar Tree Lowers Outlook; Guess Net Loss Widens, Abercrombie Soars

Earnings Review

Abercrombie & Fitch Co ((ANF)) surged 23.8% or $4.08 to $21.20 after the casual wear retailer said net sales in the third-quarter ending on November 3 rose 0.2% from a year ago to $861.2 million.

Comparable store sales in the quarter advanced 3% and online sales soared 8.8%.

Net income in the quarter soared 137% to $23.9 million or 35 cents per diluted share from $10.1 million or 15 cents in the same quarter last year.

The casual wear retailer forecasted fiscal 2018 net sales growth in the range of 2% to 4% and comparable retail sales in the range of 2% to 4%.

Dollar Tree Inc ((DLTR)) jumped 4.1% or $3.44 to $86.76 after the discount stores operator reported sales in the third-quarter ending on November 3 jumped 4.2% from a year ago to $5.5 billion.

Same store sales across all brands in the quarter increased 1% and same store sales at Dollar Tree stores advanced 2.3% and same store sales in the Family Dollar banner fell 0.4%.

Net income in the quarter surged 17.5% to $281.8 million or $1.18 per diluted share from $239.9 million or $1.01 in the same quarter last year.

Dollar Tree lowered fiscal 2018 net sales forecast between $22.72 billion and $22.83 billion from the earlier estimate of $22.75 billion to $22.97 billion and diluted earnings per share in the range of $4.86 and $4.95 from the earlier estimate of $4.85 to $5.05.

Guess? Inc ((GES)) rose 14 cents to $22.03 after the apparel and accessories retailer stated revenues in the third-quarter ending on November 3 jumped 10% from a year ago to $605 million.

Net loss in the quarter widened to $13.4 million or 17 cents per diluted share from $2.9 million or 4 cents in the same quarter last year.

The retailer forecasted fiscal 2018 net revenues growth between 10% and 10.5% and operating margin growth in the range of 2.5% to 2.8% and diluted earnings per share in the range of 57 cents to 64 cents.

La-Z-Boy Inc ((LZB)) advanced 2.1% or 60 cents to $29.76 after the furniture manufacturer said net sales in the second-quarter ending on October 27 surged 11.7% from a year ago to $439.3 million.

Same store sales in the quarter soared 4.4% and same store sales in the company-owned retail segment increased 4%.

Net income in the quarter declined 12.6% to $20 million or 42 cents per diluted share from $22.9 million or 47 cents in the same quarter last year.

Semtech Corp ((SMTC)) soared 6.4% or $3.08 to $51.22 after the analog and mixed-signal semiconductors supplier reported net sales in the third-quarter ending on October 28 advanced 15.5% from a year ago to $173.6 million.

Net income in the quarter plunged 8.3% to $12.2 million or 18 cents per diluted share from $13.3 million or 20 cents in the same quarter last year.

Tech Data Corp ((TECD)) surged 15.7% or $11.59 to $85.27 after the technology products maker reported net sales in the third-quarter ending in October soared 11% from a year ago to $9.3 billion.

Net income in the quarter jumped 52% to $116.3 million or $2.96 per diluted share from $76.7 million or 97 cents in the same quarter last year.

Tech Data forecasted fiscal 2019 net sales between $10.5 billion and $10.9 billion and diluted earnings per share in the range of $3 to $3.30.
