Airbus Profit Jumps on Record Deliveries, Nestle Revenues Decline

    Airbus profit surged on record plane deliveries. Aegon net declined but revenues jumped. Air Liquide beats profit estimates. Nestle profit tumbled on weak revenues in for the first time in several decades.

In London trading, FTSE 100 index rose 6.81 to 7,220.20 and in Frankfurt the DAX index edged down 1.94 to 12,338.87.

In Paris, CAC 40 index jumped 55.92 or 1.1% to 5,221.18.

Airbus SE soared 8.3% to €22.20 after Netherlands-based commercial and defense aircraft maker reported revenues in the year ending in December rose 0.3% from a year ago to €66.8 billion.

Net profit in the year surged to €2.9 billion from €995 million in a year ago period and diluted earnings per share jumped to €3.70 from €1.29.

Airbus said new orders increased to €158 billion from €134 billion and as of December 30, 2017 order book valued fell to €997 billion from €1,060 billion on write-downs of additional €1.3 billion in its A400M military transport plane, turned to total losses of more than €8 billion.

The aircraft maker forecasted fiscal 2018 operating profit of about 20%.

Aegon N.V jumped 3.1% to €5.59 after Netherlands-based life insurance provider said revenues in the fourth-quarter ending in December soared 42.5% from a year ago to €3.9 billion.

Net profit in the year plunged 19.8% to €986 billion from €1.2 billion in a year ago period and diluted earnings per share jumped to €3.70 from €1.29.

Air Liquide SA advanced 2.9% to €101.40 after France-based gases technology provider reported revenues in the year ending in December surged 12.2% from a year ago to €20.3 billion.

Net profit in the year jumped 19.3% to €2.2 billion from €1.8 billion in a year ago period and diluted earnings per share jumped to €5.25 from €4.64.

Nestle SA dropped 2.6% to 75.30 Swiss francs after Switzerland-based nutrition and health products maker said revenues in the year ending in December edged up 0.3% from a year ago to 89.8 billion francs.

Net profit in the year tumbled 15.3% to 7.2 billion francs from 8.5 billion francs in a year ago period and diluted earnings per share slumped to 2.32 francs from 2.75 francs.
