Actelion Receives Fresh Bid from J&J, GoDaddy Pursues Host Europe

In London trading, FTSE 100 index edged up 3.85 to 6,750.72 and in Frankfurt the DAX index increased 56.43 or 0.5% to 10,741.02.

In Paris, CAC 40 index gained 34.77 or 0.8% to 4,609.09.

Actelion Ltd jumped 2.2% to 207.20 Swiss francs after Switzerland-based biopharmaceutical group confirmed that Johnson & Johnson approached the company with a revised takeover offer for 253 francs from the earlier offer of 249 francs or $246 per share.

ABN AMRO Group NV gained 1.9% to €20.68 after the Netherlands-based financial and banking services provider agreed to sell its private-banking unit with €18.5 billion in assets under management in Asia and the Middle East to LGT Group.

Drax Group Plc surged 12.2% to 311.40 pence after the U.K.-based electricity provider agreed to acquire privately held Opus Energy Group Ltd for £340 million or $433.43 million.

The deal would help it to expand to supply power to small-and-medium enterprises.

Host Europe Group Ltd, the U.K.-based privately held web services provide received takeover offer from the U.S.-based website domain name provider GoDaddy Inc for about€1.69 billion or $1.79 billion.

The deal is expected to close in the second-quarter of 2017.

Thomas Cook Group Plc advanced 3.3% to 88.80 pence after the U.K.-based leisure travel group agreed to buy retail travel business from Co-operative Group for £55.8 million.
