Earnings Review

American Tower Corp ((AMT)) slumped 2.3% or $2.22 to $94.46 after the mobile-tower company reported revenues in the second-quarter ending in June soared 13.6% to $1.17 billion form a year ago period.

Net income in the quarter plunged 43.8% to $129.3 million or 30 cents per diluted share compared to $230.1 million or 58 cents from the same quarter last year.

Anadarko Petroleum Corporation ((APC)) soared 4.9% or $3.58 to $76.41 after the oil and gas explorer said revenues in the second-quarter ending in June declined 40.5% to $2.64 billion form a year ago period.

Net income in the quarter tumbled 73.1% to $61 million or 12 cents per diluted share compared to $227 million or 45 cents from the same quarter last year.

The oil explorer forecasted sales volume for the third-quarter between 71 million barrels of oil equivalent and 73 million boe.

For the year, Anadarko estimated sales volume in the range of 298 million barrels of oil equivalent to 302 million boe, less than the previous guidance between 300 million boe to 306 million boe.

Anthem Inc ((ANTM)) rose 39 cents to $154.59 after the healthcare and insurer services provider stated revenues in the second-quarter ending in June climbed 8.4% to $19.76 billion form a year ago period.

Net income in the quarter surged 17.5% to $859.1 million or $3.13 per diluted share compared to $731.1 million or $2.56 from the same quarter last year.

General Dynamics Corporation ((GD)) surged 5.2% or $7.43 to $151.57 after the aerospace and defense products maker reported revenues in the second-quarter ending in June jumped 5.5% to $7.88 billion form a year ago period.

Net income in the quarter climbed 39% to $752 million or $2.27 per diluted share compared to $541 million or $1.58 from the same quarter last year.

The company forecasted earnings per share for the year in the range of $8.70 to $8.80.

Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc ((HLT)) jumped 4.4% or $1.16 to $27.65 after the hotels operator said total revenues in the second-quarter ending in June climbed 9.4% to $2.92 billion form a year ago period.

Net income in the quarter soared 177% to $161 million or 16 per diluted share compared to $209 million or 21 cents from the same quarter last year.

MasterCard Inc ((MA)) fell 61 cents to $94.55 after the electronic payment services provider reported revenues in the second-quarter ending in June rose 1% to $2.39 billion form a year ago period.

Net income in the quarter slid 1% to $921 million or 81 cents per diluted share compared to $931 million or 80 cents from the same quarter last year.

MasterCard said worldwide purchase volume in the quarter soared 12% to $841 billion and operating margin surged to 54.9%.

As of June 30, the company’s customers had issued 2.2 billion MasterCard and Maestro-branded cards.

Twitter Inc ((TWTR)) plunged 13.5% or $4.94 to $31.60 after the social network services provider said revenues in the second-quarter ending in June surged 60.9% to $502.4 million form a year ago period.

Net loss in the quarter narrowed to $136.7 million or 21 cents per diluted share compared to $144.6 million or 24 cents from the same quarter last year.

Twitter forecasted revenues for the third-quarter in the range of $545 million to $560 million.

For the year, the company forecasted revenue between $2.20 billion and $2.27 billion compared to prior estimate of $2.17 billion to $2.27 billion.

Thomson Reuters Corp ((TRI)) jumped 4% or $1.51 to $39.17 after the professional information services provider reported revenues in the second-quarter ending in June dropped 3.8% to $3.04 billion form a year ago period.

Net income in the quarter climbed 8.1% to $281 million or 33 cents per diluted share compared to $260 million or 31 cents from the same quarter last year.
