Sensex Eases; Unilever Net Flat, Infosys Soars, HDFC Bank Net Jumps

[R]6:00 PM Mumbai – Hindustan Unilever said quarterly profit was nearly flat. Asian Paint net surged 39%. Bharti is in exclusive talks with France-based Orange to sell its four subsidiaries in Africa. Infosys soared 11% on better than expected revenues. HDFC Bank net and revenues climbed.

Market indexes in Mumbai eased after a two week surge and rupee stabilized near its low of the year as investors digested latest batch of earnings.

Rupee strengthened 12 paisa to 63.54 against one U.S. dollar.

The Sensex Index dropped 237.90 or 0.8% to close at 28,182.14. The CNX Nifty decreased 74 or 0.9% to 8,529.45.

Asian Paints Limited declined 4% to ₹816.65 after the paint maker said net in the first-quarter surged 38.5% to ₹427.81 crore.

Net revenues in the quarter rose 7.9% to ₹3,014.36 crore.

Bharti Airtel Limited jumped 3.7% to ₹445.25 after the largest wireless service provider is in exclusive talks with France-based Orange to sell its four subsidiaries in Africa.

HDFC Bank Limited slipped 1.5% to ₹1,098.60 after net in the first-quarter climbed 20.7% to ₹2,695.72 crore. Net revenues in the quarter soared 26.3% to ₹16,502.97 crore.

The net non-performing asset ratio in the quarter slid to 0.27% compared with 0.25% in March and 0.32% in a year ago month.

Hindustan Unilever Limited dropped 2.3% to ₹891.45 after the consumer goods maker reported net in the first-quarter edged up 0.2% to ₹1,059.14 crore.

Net revenues in the quarter increased 3.7% to ₹8,213.74 crore.

Indiabulls Housing Finance Limited declined 2.2% to ₹664.50 after net in the first-quarter soared 20.6% to ₹511 crore.

Net revenues in the quarter surged 27.4% to ₹2,024.90 crore.

Infosys Limited surged 11.1% to ₹1,112.65 after net in the first-quarter slid 2.1% to ₹3,030 crore.

Net sales advanced 7% to ₹13,411 crore.

LIC Housing Finance Limited declined 2.3% to ₹465.15 after the housing loan provider said net in the first-quarter climbed 18.6% to ₹382.13 crore.

Net sales in the quarter jumped 16.6% to ₹2,965.46 crore.
