3i Group, Compass, Telefonica Net Climb; Bouygues Net Swings to Loss

[R]4:00 PM Frankfurt – 3i Group net climbed 35% to £700 million. Aegon net declined 19%. Bouygues net swung to a loss of €157 million. Compass profit jumped 4% to £466 million. Telefonica net soared 162% to €1.8 billion.[/R]

In London trading, FTSE 100 index gained 0.3% or 20.66 to 6,970.23 and in Frankfurt the DAX index jumped 0.9% or 111.35 to 11,463.02.

In Paris, CAC 40 index increased 0.8% or 40.89 to 5,001.79.

3i Group Plc climbed 3.2% to 528.50 pence after the U.K.-based private equity investment manager said revenues in the year ending in March soared 24.2% to £820 million from £660 million in a year ago period.

Net income in the period climbed 35.4% from a year ago to £700 million compared to £517 million and diluted earnings per share gained to 72.9 pence from 54.5 pence.

Aegon NV gained 1.2% to €7 after the Netherlands-based insurance and financial services provider reported sales in the first-quarter ending in March soared 32% to €2.75 billion from €2.09 billion in a year ago period.

Net income in the quarter declined 19.4% from a year ago to €316 million compared to €392 million.

At the end of quarter, gross deposits were €18.7 billion and net deposits increased to €7.3 billion and life insurance sales climbed 20% to €551 million.

Bouygues SA slipped 1.3% to €37.44 after the France-based conglomerate reported revenues in the first-quarter ending in March dropped 1.6% to €6.73 billion from €6.84 billion in a year ago period.

Net in the quarter swung to a loss from a year ago to €157 million compared to profit of €238 million and diluted loss per share swung to €0.46 from diluted earnings per share of €0.71.

Compass Group Plc fell 0.3% to 1,116.67 pence after the U.K.-based restaurants and bars operator stated revenues in the first-half ending in March climbed 4.7% to £8.94 billion from £8.56 billion in a year ago period.

Net income in the period jumped 4.3% from a year ago to £466 million compared to £447 million and diluted earnings per share increased to 27.6 pence from 24.7 pence.

Telefonica SA decreased 1.8% to €13.06 after the Spain-based mobile company in the first-quarter ending in March climbed 12.6% to €11.54 billion from €10.25 billion in a year ago period.

Net profit in the quarter soared 162% from a year ago to €1.80 billion compared to €688 million and earnings per share jumped to €0.38 from €0.14.
