Earnings Review

Anadarko Petroleum Corporation ((APC)) slid 67 cents to $93.07 after the oil and natural gas explorer said revenues in the first-quarter ending in March declined 60.3% to $2.32 billion from a year ago period.

Net loss in the quarter widened to $3.27 billion or $6.45 per diluted share compared to $2.67 billion or $5.30 from the same quarter last year.

Archer Daniels Midland Company ((ADM)) fell 47 cents to $49.85 after the agricultural products maker stated revenues in the first-quarter ending in March slumped 15.4% to $17.51 billion from a year ago period.

Net income in the quarter climbed 84.6% to $493 million or 77 cents per diluted share compared to $267 million or 40 cents from the same quarter last year.

DirecTV ((DTV)) slipped 54 cents to $89.77 after the digital television services provider reported revenues in the first-quarter ending in March climbed 3.7% to $8.14 billion from a year ago period.

Net income in the quarter surged 30.1% to $730 million or $1.44 per diluted share compared to $561 million or $1.09 from the same quarter last year.

In the quarter, DirecTV added 279,000 new subscribers including 60,000 in the United States while overall DirecTV subscribers increased to 20.41 million in the U.S. and 12.69 million in Latin America.

Estee Lauder Companies Inc ((EL)) climbed 5.6% or $4.69 to $88.23 after the skin care products maker stated net sales in the third-quarter ending in March rose 1% to $2.58 billion from a year ago period.

Net income in the quarter soared 28% to $272.1 million or 71 cents per diluted share compared to $213.2 million or 54 cents from the same quarter last year.

Hyatt Hotels Corporation ((H)) dropped 1.7% or $1 to $58.23 after the hotel operator stated revenues in the first-quarter ending in March slipped 1.9% to $1.05 billion from a year ago period.

Net income in the quarter plummeted 28% to $22 million or 15 cents per diluted share compared to $56 million or 36 cents from the same quarter last year.

Kellogg Company ((K)) fell 30 cents to $63.83 after the ready-to-eat cereal and convenience foods maker said revenues in the first-quarter ending on April 4 declined 5% to $3.56 billion from a year ago period.

Comparable sales in the quarter decreased 0.3% and U.S. morning-foods division sales slumped 2.9%.

Net income in the quarter plunged 44% to $227 million or 64 cents per diluted share compared to $406 million or $1.12 from the same quarter last year.

Sempra Energy ((SRE)) slipped 1.9% or $2.04 to $105.77 after the utility company reported revenues in the first-quarter ending in March dropped 4.3% to $2.68 billion from a year ago period.

Net income in the quarter surged 76.9% to $437 million or $1.74 per diluted share compared to $247 million or 99 cents from the same quarter last year.

Walt Disney Co ((DIS)) gained 87 cents to $111.90 after the entertainment and media group reported total revenues in the second-quarter ending on March 28 jumped 6.9% to $12.46 billion from a year ago period.

Net income in the quarter climbed 9.9% to $2.11 billion or $1.23 per diluted share compared to $1.92 billion or $1.08 from the same quarter last year.
