Santander plans to raise

[R]4:00 PM Frankfurt – Santander plans to raise €7.5 billion in capital. Entertainment One acquired 51% stake in The Mark Gordon. Marks and Spencer said third-quarter sales declined. Standard Chartered plans to reduce 4,000 jobs worldwide. Talk Talk agreed to acquire blinkbox video-on-demand business from Tesco.[/R]

In London trading, FTSE 100 index jumped 1.9% or 122.70 to 6,542.53 and in Frankfurt the DAX index climbed 2% or 193.78 to 9,711.96.

In Paris, CAC 40 index soared 2.7% or 111.39 to 4,224.12.

Banco Santander, S.A climbed 3.3% to €6.86 after the Spain-based commercial bank said in a regulatory filing that its plans to raise up to €7.5 billion or $8.88 billion through an equity offering to institutional investors.

Entertainment One Ltd rose 1.6% to 310 pence after the U.K.-based television and film distributor completed its acquisition of 51% stake in The Mark Gordon Co for a partnership to create an independent studio to deliver film and television content.

Marks and Spencer Group Plc declined 3.8% to 445.60 pence after the U.K.-based specialty retailer reported same-store sales including apparel business in the third-quarter ending on December 27 plunged 5.8%.

The retailer said total group sales dropped 1.6% and U.K. sales declined 1.1% while sales in the food segment edged up 0.1%.

Standard Chartered Plc increased 0.8% to 969.60 pence after the U.K.-based financial service provider plans to reduce $400 million in costs by shutting its stock-trading and underwriting business and reduce almost 4,000 jobs worldwide, including 2,000 in Asia in 2015 from its retail banking business.

Talk Talk Telecom Group Plc gained 0.6% to 310.80 pence after the U.K.-based television and mobile network service provider agreed to acquire the blinkbox video-on-demand business and the Tesco broadband and voice base from Tesco Plc for £5 million or $7.6 million in free of debt and cash.
