CarMax, Cintas, Red Hat Surge; BlackBerry, Finish Line, Paychex Plunge

Earnings Review

BlackBerry Ltd ((BBRY)) declined 6% or 60 cents to $9.47 after the Canada-based mobile company said revenues in the third-quarter ending in November plunged 33.4% to $976 million from a year ago period.

Net loss in the quarter narrowed to $148 million or 28 cents a diluted share compared to $4.40 billion or $8.37 from a same quarter last year.

CarMax, Inc ((KMX)) surged 9.6% or $5.83 to $66.36 after the car dealer reported net sales in the third-quarter ending in November surged 15.8% to $3.41 billion from a year ago period. Used unit sales in comparable stores in the quarter jumped 7.4%.

Net earnings in the quarter climbed 22.2% to $130 million or 60 cents a diluted share compared to $106.5 billion or 47 cents from a same quarter last year.

Cintas Corporation ((CTAS)) jumped 6% or $4.50 to $78.99 after the uniform and other cleaning services provider stated total revenues in the second-quarter ending were flat at $1.12 billion from a year ago.

Net income in the quarter surged 41.9% to $120.4 million or $1 a diluted share compared to $84.9 million or 70 cents from a same quarter last year.

Finish Line Inc ((FINL)) tumbled 19% or $5.50 to $23.40 after the mall-based specialty retailer said net sales in the third-quarter ending on November 29 jumped 8.6% to $395.8 million from a year ago period. Comparable store sales in the quarter climbed 4.5%.

Net income in the quarter soared 11.2% to $2.6 million compared to $2.3 million and diluted earnings per share were flat at 5 cents from a same quarter last year.

Paychex, Inc ((PAYX)) declined 3% or $1.44 to $46.31 after the outsourcing service provider reported revenues in the second-quarter climbed 10% to $676.3 million from a year ago period.

Net income in the quarter jumped 9% to $173 million or 47 cents a diluted share compared to $158.7 million or 43 cents from a same quarter last year.

Red Hat Inc ((RHT)) soared 11.3% or $6.94 to $68.44 after the open source software developer said total revenues in the third-quarter ending in November jumped 15% to $456 million from a year ago period.

Net income in the quarter declined 7.7% to $48 million or 26 cents a diluted share compared to $52 million or 27 cents from a same quarter last year.
