Earnings Review
ArcelorMittal SA ((MT)) rose 0.3% or 4 cents to $12.42 after the steel producer reported sales in the third-quarter ending in September advanced 2% to $20.07 billion from a year ago period.
Net in the quarter swung to profit $22 million or 1 cent a diluted share compared to a loss of $193 million or 12 cents from a same quarter last year.
Consolidated Edison, Inc ((ED)) gained 1.3% or 82 cents to $63.44 after the electricity, natural gas and steam supplier stated sales in the third-quarter ending in September slipped 2.6% to $3.39 billion from a year ago period. Comparable store sales in the quarter increased 1.5%.
Net income in the quarter declined 6% to $436 million or $1.48 a diluted share compared to $464 million or $1.58 from a same quarter last year.
Humana Inc ((HUM)) declined 4.3% or $6.01 to $133.86 after the healthcare products maker stated total revenues in the third-quarter ending in September climbed 19.7% to $12.2 billion from a year ago period.
Net income in the quarter plunged 66.2% to $290 million or $1.85 a diluted share compared to $368 million or $2.31 from a same quarter last year.
Intercept Pharmaceuticals Inc ((ICPT)) tumbled 27.8% or $68.58 to $178.40 after the biopharmaceutical company reported revenue in the third-quarter ending in September soared 9% to $405 million from a year ago period.
Net loss in the quarter widened to $35.8 million or $1.69 a diluted share compared to $31.7 million or $1.65 from a same quarter last year.
Northeast Utilities System ((NU)) gained 47 cents to $49.97 after the energy distributor said revenue in the third-quarter ending in September was flat at $1.89 billion from a year ago period.
Net income in the quarter climbed 12% to $234.6 million or 74 cents a diluted share compared to $209.5 million or 37 cents from a same quarter last year.
Nvidia Corporation ((NVDA)) dropped 2.4% or 49 cents to $19.74 after the graphic chip maker reported revenue in the third-quarter ending in September surged 16% to $1.23 billion from a year ago period.
Net income in the quarter soared 45% to $173 million or 31 cents a diluted share compared to $119 million or 20 cents from a same quarter last year.
ViaSat, Inc ((VSAT)) soared 5.1% or $3.09 to $63.35 after the high-speed broadband services provider said revenues in the second-quarter ending on October 3 rose 1% to $358.8 million from a year ago period.
Net income in the quarter surged to $23.9 million or 50 cents a diluted share compared to $1.9 million or 4 cents from a same quarter last year.
Walt Disney Co ((DIS)) declined 2.9% or $2.61 to $89.39 after the diversified entertainment company reported revenue in the third-quarter ending in September jumped 7% to $12.40 billion from a year ago period.
Net income in the quarter soared 8% to $1.50 billion or 86 cents a diluted share compared to $1.39 billion or 77 cents from a same quarter last year.
Media Networks division revenues for the quarter rose 5% to $5.2 billion and revenue from parks and resorts segment increased 7% to $4 billion. Consumer Products division revenues for the quarter increased 7% to $1.1 billion.
