Tesla Motors Net Loss Widens, Whole Foods Net Rises

Earnings Review

Apache Corporation ((APA)) declined 3.4% or $2.59 to $73.06 after the oil, and gas explorer said total revenue in the third-quarter ending in September dropped 4.1% to $3.74 billion from a year ago period.

Net in the quarter swung to a loss of $1.33 billion or $3.50 a diluted share compared to profit $300 million or 75 cents from a same quarter last year.

Advance Auto Parts, Inc ((AAP)) plunged 5.1% or $7.55 to $141.82 after the auto parts retailer stated sales in the third-quarter ending in September soared 50.7% to $2.29 billion from a year ago period. Comparable store sales in the quarter increased 1.5%.

Net income in the quarter surged 17.7% to $122.2 million or $1.66 a diluted share compared to $103.8 million or $1.42 from a same quarter last year.

AES Corp ((AES)) dropped 4% or 55 cents to $13.40 after the diversified power producer reported total revenue in the third-quarter ending in September climbed 11% to $4.44 billion from a year ago period.

Net income in the quarter climbed 587.3% to $488 million or 67 cents a diluted share compared to $71 million or 9 cents from a same quarter last year.

DIRECTV ((DTV)) fell 40 cents to $87.42 after the satellite television services provider reported revenues in the third-quarter ending in September jumped 6% to $8.37 billion from a year ago period.

Net income in the quarter plunged 12.6% to $611 million or $1.21 a diluted share compared to $699 million or $1.28 from a same quarter last year.

Hospira, Inc ((HSP)) surged 8.5% or $4.49 to $57.59 after the injectable drugs provider said net sales in the third-quarter ending in September climbed 14.1% to $1.15 billion from a year ago period.

Net income in the quarter soared to $158.6 million or 92 cents a diluted share compared to $1.9 million or 1 cent from a same quarter last year.

Mondelez International Inc ((MDLZ)) gained 1.1% or 42 cents to $37.57 after the food and beverage products maker reported revenues in the third-quarter ending in September fell 1.6% to $8.34 billion from a year ago period.

Net income in the quarter declined 11.2% to $899 million or 53 cents a diluted share compared to $1.01 billion or 56 cents from a same quarter last year.

Tesla Motors Inc ((TSLA)) jumped 6.1% or $14.38 to $245.21 after the electric vehicles maker said total revenue in the third-quarter ending in September soared 97.5% to $851.8 million from a year ago period.

Net loss in the quarter widened to $74.7 million or 60 cents a diluted share compared to $38.5 million or 32 cents from a same quarter last year.

Chief executive officer Elon Musk estimated 50% increase in deliveries of the Model S next year and yearly production to increase more than 50% this year and for several years to follow.

Whole Foods Market, Inc ((WFM)) surged 10.1% or $4.04 to $44.03 after the natural and organic food retailer reported revenues in the fourth-quarter ending in September climbed 9% to $3.3 billion from a year ago period. Comparable store sales in the quarter jumped 3.1%.

Net income in the quarter jumped 5.8% to $128 million or 35 cents a diluted share compared to $121 million or 32 cents from a same quarter last year.
