Flowers Foods Misses Estimates, Nuance Loss Widens

Earnings Review

AerCap Holdings N.V ((AER)) gained 1.8% or 81 cents to $45.29 after the aviation company said total revenues in the second-quarter ending in June surged 226.6% to $806.8 million from a year ago period.

Net income in the quarter soared 83% to $138.3 million or 83 cents a diluted share compared to $75.7 million or 66 cents from a same quarter last year.

Acceleron Pharma Inc ((XLRN)) declined 4.5% or $1.36 to $28.55 after the biopharmaceutical company said revenue in the second-quarter ending in June was $4.09 million.

Net in the quarter swung to a loss of $16.6 million or 52 cents a diluted share compared to profit of $1.2 million or 28 cents in the quarter last year.

Flowers Foods, Inc ((FLO)) dropped 4.7%or 94 cents to $19.08 after the bakery products maker reported sales in the second-quarter ending on July 12 fell 2.3% to $877.4 million from a year ago period.

Net income in the quarter plunged 10.3% to $45 million or 21 cents a diluted share compared to $50.1 million or 24 cents in the quarter last year.

MannKind Corporation ((MNKD)) tumbled 11.8% or $1.01 to $7.53 after the biopharmaceutical company reported net loss in the second-quarter ending in June widened to $73.4 million or 19 cents a diluted share compared to $46 million or 16 cents from a same quarter last year.

Nuance Communications Inc ((NUAN)) plunged 9.7% or $1.74 to $16.36 after the voice and language solution provider stated total revenues in the third-quarter ending in June increased 1.2% to $475.5 million from a year ago period.

Net loss in the quarter widened to $54.2 million or 17 cents a diluted share compared to $35 million or 11 cents from a same quarter last year.

Towers Watson & Co ((TW)) slipped 1.2% or $1.28 to $102.99 after the professional service provider said total revenues in the fourth-quarter ending in June advanced 5% to $879 million from a year ago period.

Net income in the quarter fell 0.6% to $82.4 million or $1.17 a diluted share compared to $82.9 million or $1.16 from a same quarter last year.

The Valspar Corporation ((VAL)) increased 1.5% or $1.14 to $79.03 after the paint and coatings maker reported net sales in the third-quarter ending in June advanced 10% to $1.2 billion from a year ago period.

Net income in the quarter jumped 4.3% to $97.8 million or $1.14 a diluted share compared to $93.8 million or $1.04 from a same quarter last year.
