Earnings Review
Amgen Inc. ((AMGN)) soared 5.8% or $7.07 to $130.38 after the biopharmaceutical company stated total revenues in the second-quarter ending in June jumped 21% to $5.2 billion from a year ago period.
Net income in the quarter climbed 23% to $1.55 billion or $2.01 a diluted share compared to $1.26 billion or $1.65 from a same quarter last year.
CBRE Group, Inc. ((CBG)) dropped 2.2% or 71 cents to $31.80 after the real estate agency reported revenues in the second-quarter ending in June surged 22% to $2.1 billion from a year ago period.
Net income in the quarter soared 50.7% to $105.4 million or 32 cents a diluted share compared to $69.9 million or 21 cents from a same quarter last year.
Global Payments Inc ((GPN)) slumped 2.4% or $1.70 to $70.03 after the payment service provider said revenues in the fourth-quarter ending in May advanced 9% to $674 million from a year ago period.
Net income in the quarter climbed 26.5% to $51.6 million or 72 cents a diluted share compared to $40.8 million or 53 cents from a same quarter last year.
Franklin Resources, Inc ((BEN)) declined 3.2% or $1.82 to $55.28 after the investment company reported total revenue in the third-quarter ending in June rose 2% to $2.13 billion from a year ago period.
Net income in the quarter jumped 5% to $578.9 million or 92 cents a diluted share compared to $552.3 million or 86 cents from a year earlier.
Humana Inc ((HUM)) plunged 6.5% or $8.17 to $119.35 after the health care company revenue in the second-quarter ending in June surged 18.4% to $12.22 billion from a year ago period.
Net income in the quarter tumbled 18% to $344 million or $2.19 a diluted share compared to $420 million or $2.63 from a same quarter last year.
The company reaffirmed its earnings per share guidance for the year in the range of $7.25 to $7.75 and revenue between $47 billion and $49 billion.
Rockwell Automation, Inc. ((ROK)) declined 6.8% or $8.16 to $111.81 after the electrical components and equipment provider said total sales in the third-quarter ending in June rose 2% to $1.62 billion from a year ago period.
Net income in the quarter fell 1.9% to $199.7 million or $1.43 a diluted share compared to $203.7 million or $1.45 from a same quarter last year.
Twitter Inc ((TWTR)) surged 21.5% or $8.28 to $46.82 after the social media network service provider reported revenue in the second-quarter ending in June soared 124% to $312 million from a year ago period.
Net loss in the quarter widened to $144.6 million or 24 cents a diluted share compared to $42.2 million or 32 cents from a year earlier.
The company said average monthly active users in the quarter climbed 24% to 271 million and mobile users surged 29% to 211 million. Advertising revenue in the second quarter per thousand timeline views reached $1.60 and soared 129% to $277 million from a year earlier.
WellPoint Inc ((WLP)) slipped 1.9% or $2.13 to $110.42 after the health insurer said total revenue in the second-quarter ending in June jumped 4.4% to $18.5 billion from a year ago period.
Net income in the quarter declined 8.6% to $731.1 million or $2.56 a diluted share compared to $800.1 million or $2.64 from a year earlier.
