H&R Block, Synaptics, Ulta Salon Rise; United Natural Foods Falls

Ares Management, L.P. ((ARES)) slid 3 cents to $18.54 after the investment company said total revenues in the first-quarter ending in March climbed 24.7% to $133.6 million.

Net income in the quarter surged 26% to $281.4 million compared to $223.1 million a year ago period.

H&R Block, Inc. ((HRB)) jumped 2.3% or 74 cents to $31.47 after the tax and banking services provider reported net sales in the fourth-quarter ending in April soared 18% to $2.6 billion.

Net income in the quarter climbed 36.9% to $910 million or $3.29 a diluted share compared to $664.3 million or $2.42.

NCI Building Systems, Inc. ((NCS)) rose 15 cents to $17.80 after the metal products maker reported sales in the second-quarter ending on May 4advanced 4.2% to $305.8 million.

Net loss in the quarter narrowed to $4.9 million or 7 cents a diluted share compared to $5.3 million or 28 cents.

Synaptics, Inc ((SYNA)) surged 25.6% or $16.93 to $83.45 after the touch-screen chipmaker lifted its fourth-quarter revenue guidance in the range of $275 million to $295 million, an increase of 30% to 35% from the year ago period.

Separately, the company agreed to acquire Japan-based Renesas SP Drivers, Inc., the display driver chip maker for smart-phones and tablets for $475 million or 48.5 billion yen.

Sportsman''s Warehouse Holdings, Inc ((SPWH)) climbed 4.5% or 39 cents to $8.99 after the sport goods retailer stated net sales in the first-quarter ending on May 3 fell 3% to $132.4 million. Same store sales in the quarter plunged 18.1%.

Net in the quarter swung to a loss $3.4 million or 10 cents a diluted share compared to profit of $4.5 million or 13 cents.

United Natural Foods, Inc ((UNFI)) plunged 6.8% or $4.63 to $63.87 after the organic food retailer said net sales in the second-quarter ending on February 1 jumped 13.9% to $200.3 million.

Net income in the quarter soared 23.9% to $28 million or 56 cents a diluted share compared to $22.6 million or 46 cents.

Ulta Salon Cosmetics & Fragrance Inc. ((ULTA)) surged 15.3% or $12.95 to $98.25 after the beauty products retailer net sales in the first-quarter ending on May 4 surged 22.5% to $713.8 million. Comparable store sales in the quarter climbed 8.7% and e-commerce comparable sales grew 72.3%.

Net income in the quarter jumped 19.4% to $50 million or 77 cents a diluted share compared to $41.8 million or 65 cents.

For the second-quarter, the company expects net sales between $706 million and $717 million from $601 million and comparable store sales growth in the range of 5% to 7% from 8.4% in a year ago period.
