India Auto Sales: Bajaj, Hero, Maruti, M&M, TVS Sales Climb

Bajaj Auto sales in May rose 4% and export climbed 40%. Hero Motocorp sales jumped 8%. Maruti sales soared 19% and domestic sales jumped 16% while export surged 51%. M&M sales edged up 1% after domestic sales grew 3% but export declined 30%. TVS sales climbed 27% and export soared 42%.

Auto sales in May were mixed after falling more than 10% in April when sales dropped to 135,000. Not all companies have released May month sales but Maruti sales rebounded after struggling for last few months.

Sales of scooters and motorcycles at Bajaj, Hero Motocorp, Yamaha and TVS showed healthy gains but tractor and utility vehicle maker M&M struggled with sales for the second month in a row.

Scooter sales in April soared 26% to 329,680 and motorcycle sales shot up 8% from a year ago month to 911,908.

Gainers & Losers

Bajaj Auto Ltd increased 1.1% to Rs 1,975 after the company said its total vehicle sales in May rose 4% 351,436 units, compared to the 339,348 units a year ago month.

The company reported total motorcycle sales grew 3% to 313,020 units from 304,780 units a year earlier.

The commercial vehicles sales for the month jumped 11% to 38,416 units from 34,568 units a year ago, while exports in May climbed 40% to 156,179 units compared to 111,835 units.

Hero Motocorp Ltd gained 1.7% to Rs 2,385.10 after sales in May jumped 8% to 6,02,481 units from 557,890 units a year ago month.

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd jumped 2.5% to Rs 2,326.85 after the company said its total sales in May soared 19.2% to 100,925 vehicles from 84,677 units a year ago.

The small car maker said domestic sales in May jumped 16.4% to 90,560 units from 77,821 units while exports climbed 51% to 10,365 units compared to 6,856 units.

Mahindra & Mahindra Limited rose 0.8% to Rs 1,240.45 after the company reported total tractor sales in May rose 1% to 23,940 units.

Total sales in the domestic market grew 3% to 23,132 units and exports declined 30% to 808 units.

TVS Motor Company Limited slid 0.2% to Rs 129.85 after the company said total sale in May climbed 27% to 210,293 units compared to 165,151 units a year earlier.

The company added motorcycle sales jumped 28% to 85,475 units from 66,606 units and exports in the month surged 42% to 34,623 units compared to 24,393 units a year ago period.
