Europe Earnings: Acal, Compass, Carillon, Hammerson, JD Sports, RPC

[R]3:40 PM Frankfurt – Acal profit surged and revenue jumped 3%. Compass Group profit plunged 29% to £429 million. Carillon won contract for £800 million from Sunderland City Council. Hammerson raised $443 million from nine U.S. institutions. RPC Group profit tumbled 55%.[/R]

In London trading, FTSE 100 index increased 0.3% or 22.34 to 6,677 and in Frankfurt the DAX index gained 0.2% or 24.66 to 9,412.

In Paris, CAC 40 index rose 0.1% or 4.70 to 4,307.

Acal Plc declined 4.7% to 355.51 pence after the U.K.-based electronic products maker and service provider said revenue in the first-half ending in September grew 3% to £113.4 million from £109.8 million a year ago period.

Profit for the period surged £3 million compared to £0.5 million and diluted earnings per share climbed to 9.1 pence from 1.7 pence a year earlier.

Separately, Acal agreed to acquire Germany-based RSG Electronic Components GmbH for €3 million in cash and a deferred cash consideration of €0.25 million payable after 18 months.

Compass Group Plc rose 0.4% to 926 pence after the U.K.-based food and support service provider reported revenue in the year ending in September jumped 3.9% to £17.56 billion from £16.90 billion a year ago.

Profit for the year plunged 29.1% to £429 million compared to £605 million and earnings per share dropped to 23.4 pence from 31.9 pence a year earlier.

Carillon Plc, integrated support services provider selected as strategic partner by Sunderland City Council to deliver its regeneration program worth £800 million. The annual contract is worth about £100 million for the first eight years.

Hammerson Plc rose 0.4% to 514 pence after the U.K.-based real estate investor signed an agreement with nine unnamed US institutions for placement of $443 million of 7, 10 and 12 year notes in two tranches in 2014.

JD Sports Fashion Plc soared 10.7% to 1,374.44 after the U.K.-based sport and athletic products retailer reported UK and Ireland comparable store sales in the first-half ending on August 3 climbed 5.8%.

RPC Group Plc slid 0.2% to 501 pence after the U.K.-based plastic packaging company reported revenue in the first-half ending in September jumped 8.5% to £525 million from £484 million a year ago period.

Profit for the period tumbled 55.6% to £6 million compared to £13.5 million and diluted earnings per share rose to 13.3 pence from 12.8 pence a year earlier.

The company added profit-before-tax fell £30.1 million compared to £29.2 million a year ago.
