The AES Corporation ((AES)) rose 10 cents to $14.15 after the electric utility provider reported total revenues in the third-quarter ending in September declined 8% to $4 billion. Net in the quarter swung to a profit $71 million or 9 cents a diluted share compared to a loss of $1.57 billion or $2.10.
Alliant Energy Corporation ((LNT)) gained 1.3% or 67 cents to $53.08 after the electric utility provider stated total revenues in the third-quarter ending in September slid 2% to $866.6 million. Net income in the quarter advanced 5% to $157.6 million or $1.42 a diluted share compared to $150.7 million or $1.36.
Ansys, Inc. ((ANSS)) plunged 6.8% or $6.02 to $83 after the engineering simulation software developer said total revenues in the third-quarter ending in September jumped 8% to $212.7 million. Net income in the quarter soared 21% to $62.4 million or 66 cents a diluted share compared to $51.6 million or 54 cents.
Calpine Corporation ((CPN)) increased 1.1% or 11 cents to $19.85 after the wholesale power producer reported operative revenues in the third-quarter ending in September grew 3% to $2.05 billion. Net income in the quarter plunged 30% to $306 million or 70 cents a diluted share compared to $437 million or 94 cents.
Canadian Natural Resources Limited ((CNQ)) rose 7 cents to $31.30 after the Canada-based energy company said total revenues in the third-quarter ending in September soared 33% to $5.28 billion. Net income in the quarter surged 224% to $1.17 billion or $1.07 a diluted share compared to $360 million or 33 cents.
Rockwell Automation, Inc. ((ROK)) climbed 3.5% or $3.83 to $112.86 after the industrial automation power provider stated sales in the fourth-quarter ending in September increased 4% to $1.72 billion. Net income in the quarter advanced 10% to $215.3 million or $1.53 a diluted share compared to $195.2 million or $1.38.
Ralph Lauren Corporation ((RL)) slipped 1.5% or $2.84 to $177.74 after the retailers reported net sales in the third-quarter ending in September increased 3% to $1.9 billion. Net income in the quarter dropped 4% to $205 million or $2.23 a diluted share compared to $214 million or $2.29.
Towers Watson & Co. ((TW)) fell 13 cents to $109.46 after the professional services company said total revenues in the first-quarter ending in September rose 2% to $810 million. Net income in the quarter climbed 49% to $88 million or $1.24 a diluted share compared to $59 million or 82 cents.
Qualcomm Incorporated ((QCOM)) declined 3.7% or $2.65 to $67.08 after the communications and network chip provider stated total revenues in the third-quarter ending in September soared 35% to $6.24 billion. Net income in the quarter surged 31% to $1.58 billion or 90 cents a diluted share compared to $1.21 billion or 69 cents.
Westlake Chemical Corporation ((WLK)) jumped 3.7% or $4.06 to $112.90 after the basic chemicals maker reported total revenues in the third-quarter ending in September climbed 22% to $1 billion. Net income in the quarter surged 98% to $170.3 million or $2.54 a diluted share compared to $87 million or $1.30.
Whole Foods Market, Inc ((WFM)) tumbled 10% or $6.49 to $57.96 after the gourmet food retailer reported total sales in the fourth-quarter ending in September rose 2% to $3 billion. Comparable store sales in the quarter soared 5.9%.
Net income in the quarter grew 7% to $121 million or 32 cents a diluted share compared to $113 million or 30 cents.
