Chesapeake Energy net swung to profit as revenue soared 64%. Duke Energy net surged 69%. DIRECTV net climbed 24% after sales jumped 6%. Humana net dropped 14%. Time Warner profit surged 44% and Tesla Motors net loss narrowed.

Chesapeake Energy Corporation ((CHK)) declined 4.4% or $1.25 to $26.87 after the gas and oil explorer stated total revenues in the third-quarter ending in September soared 64% to $4.87 billion. Net in the quarter swung to a profit $156 million or 24 cents a diluted share compared to a loss of $2.06 billion or $3.19.
Cimarex Energy Co. ((XEC)) soared 5.5% or $5.55 to $109.25 after the oil and gas explorer said total revenues in the third-quarter ending in September surged 38% to $561.3 million. Net income in the quarter soared 64% to $138.4 million or $1.59 a diluted share compared to $84.3 million or 97 cents.
Duke Energy Corporation ((DUK)) rose 18 cents to $72.63 after the energy company reported total revenues in the third-quarter ending in September slid 0.1% to $6.71 billion. Net income in the quarter surged 69% to $1 billion or $1.42 a diluted share compared to $594 million or 85 cents.
DIRECTV ((DTV)) fell 38 cents to $63.15 after the satellite television services provider reported sales in the third-quarter ending in September jumped 6% to $7.88 billion. Net income in the quarter climbed 24% to $699 million or $1.28 a diluted share compared to $565 million or 90 cents a year earlier.
In the quarter, the company added 139,000 net new U.S. subscribers, highest since 2011, totaling 37 million. Sky Brasil and PanAmericana added 260,000 net new customers and DIRECTV Latin America and Sky Mexico surpass 17 million customers.
Humana Inc. ((HUM)) jumped 3.4% or $3.22 to $97.14 after the health care company said revenues in the third-quarter ending in September advanced 7% to $10.3 billion. Net income in the quarter dropped 14% to $368 million or $2.31 a diluted share compared to $426 million or $2.62.
IntercontinentalExchange Inc ((ICE)) gained 39 cents to $198.36 after the over-the-counter exchanges operator reported revenues in the third-quarter ending in September jumped 5% to $338 million. Net income in the quarter climbed 8% to $141.3 million or $1.92 a diluted share compared to $131.1 million or $1.79.
OGE Energy Corp. ((OGE)) increased 3% or $1.11 to $38.10 after the energy services provider stated net sales in the fourth-quarter ending in September plunged 35% to $723.2 million. Net income in the quarter climbed 16% to $215.2 million or $1.08 a diluted share compared to $185.5 million or 94 cents.
Time Warner Inc. ((TWX)) jumped 2.1% or $1.42 to $69.65 after the media and entertainment company reported total revenues in the third-quarter ending in September rose 0.3% to $6.86 billion. Net income in the quarter surged 44% to $1.18 billion or $1.26 a diluted share compared to $822 million or 84 cents.
Tesla Motors Inc ((TSLA)) plunged 10.9% or $19.30 to $157.51 after the electric vehicles maker reported revenues in the third-quarter ending in September surged 7% to $431.3 million. Net loss in the quarter narrowed to $38.5 million or 32 cents a diluted share compared to $110.8 million or $1.05.
