U.S. Movers: Boeing, Caterpillar, Eli Lilly, EMC, Ford, PepsiCo, AT&T

    Boeing net jumped 13% but Caterpillar net plunged 42%. Eli Lilly net surged 31%. Ford soared 20% as sales climbed 14%. General Dynamics net rose 0.9% and PepsiCo surged 35%. AT&T net slid 2.1% and VMware net surged 27%.

The Boeing Company ((BA)) rose 17 cents to $107.89 after the aircraft maker and defense contractor reported net sales in the second quarter ending in June climbed 9% $21.8 billion. Net income in the quarter jumped 13% to $1.09 billion or $1.41 a diluted share compared to $967 million or $1.27.

Segment wise revenue in the quarter, commercial airplanes advanced 15% to $13.6 billion and defense, space & security''s flat to $8.2 billion.

For the Year, the company expects revenue in the range of $83 billion to $86 billion and diluted earnings per share between $5.10 and $5.30.

Canadian Pacific Railway Limited ((CP)) slipped 2% or $2.64 to $124 after the Canada based rail road operator stated total revenues in the second quarter ending in June advanced 10% to $1.05 billion. Net income in the quarter soared 145% to $252 million or $1.43 a diluted share compared to $1.03 million or 60 cents.

The company added operating income in the quarter surged 76% to $420 million.

Caterpillar Inc. ((CAT)) fell 1.6% or $1.40 to $84.12 after the earth moving equipment maker said revenue in the second quarter ending in June slipped 16% $14.6 billion. Net income in the quarter plunged 42% to $960 million or $1.45 a diluted share compared to $1.70 billion or $2.54.
In the second quarter, operating profit plunged 40% to $1.56 billion.

The company expects revenue for the year in the range of $56 billion to $58 billion

Eli Lilly and Company ((LLY)) jumped 2.6% or $1.32 to $52.31 after the healthcare company reported revenue in the second quarter ending in June rose 6% $5.93 billion. Net income in the quarter surged 31% to $1.21 billion or $1.11 a diluted share compared to $923.6 million or 83 cents.

Gross margin in the second quarter climbed 7% to $4.76 billion and operating income jumped 25% to $1.50 billion.

For the year, the company expects diluted earnings per share in the range of $4.28 to 4.38 and non-GAAP basis diluted earnings per share between $4.05 and $4.15.

EMC Corporation ((EMC)) soared 6.4% or $1.63 to $26.97 after the electronic storage systems maker said revenue in the second quarter ending in June jumped 6% $5.61 billion. Net income in the quarter surged 8% to $701 million or 32 cents a diluted share compared to $650 million or 29 cents.

For the year, EMC expects consolidated revenues to be $23.5 billion and net income of $3 billion.

Ford Motor Company ((F)) climbed 3.8% or 64 cents to $17.58 after the automotive company stated revenues in the second quarter ending in June climbed 14% to $38.1 billion. Net income in the quarter soared 20% to $1.2 billion or 30 cents a diluted share compared to $1 billion or 26 cents.

General Dynamics Corporation ((GD)) rose 2.8% or $2.39 to $86.42 after the aerospace and defense company reported revenues in the second quarter ending in June was flat to $7.9 billion. Net earnings in the quarter rose 0.9% to $640 million or $1.81 a diluted share compared to 634 million or $1.77.

PepsiCo, Inc. ((PEP)) slid 18 cents to $86.02 after the beverage and salty snacks maker said revenues in the second quarter ending on June 15 grew 1% to $16.8 billion. Net income in the quarter surged 35% to $2.01 billion or $1.28 a diluted share compared to 1.49 billion or 94 cents.

The company added operating profit in the quarter soared 21% $2.87 billion.

AT&T Inc ((T)) dropped 1.9% or 71 cents to $35.10 after the telecommunication service provider reported net sales in the second quarter ending in June rose 1.6% $32.01 billion. Net income in the quarter slid 2.1% to $3.82 billion or 71cents a diluted share compared to $3.90 billion or 66 cents.

Wireless revenues jumped 5.7% and service revenues grew 4%. Wireless data revenues soared 19.8%. During the quarter the company added 1.2 million new smart-phone subscribers; smart-phones sales surged 88% of postpaid phone

VMware, Inc. ((VMW)) surged 15.1% or $10.74 to $82.02 after the network based storage provider said total revenue in the second quarter ending in June jumped 10.7% $1.24 billion. Net income in the quarter surged 27.3% to $244.1 million or 57 cents a diluted share compared to $191.7 million or 44 cents.

WellPoint, Inc. ((WLP)) gained 74 cents to $88.25 after the health insurer reported total revenue in the second quarter ending in June soared 16% $17.8 billion. Net income in the quarter climbed 24.3% to $800.1 million or $2.64 a diluted share compared to $643.6 million or $1.94.
