Aeropostale fourth quarter net swung to loss and Brown Shoe and Carnival Corp first quarter net swung to profit. Hibbett Sports net climbed 22%. Nortek net loss widened and Ulta Salon net climbed 39% to $64.5 million.

Aeropostale, Inc. ((ARO)) dropped 6.2% or 90 cents to $13.61 after the specialty retailer reported net sales in the fourth quarter ending on February 2 decreased 1% to $797.7 million from the same period of last year. The company comparable sales in the quarter declined 8%.
In the quarter net loss swung to $0.7 million or 1 cent a diluted share compared to net income of $26.1 million or 32 cents a share a year ago period.
For the first quarter, Aeropostale expects a loss per diluted share in the range of 15 cents to 20 cents.
Brown Shoe Company, Inc. ((BWS)) declined 6% or $1.11 to $17.29 after the footwear retailer said sales in the fourth quarter ending in December grew 2% to $640.2 million from the same period of last year. Net earnings in the quarter swung 126% to $4 million or 9 cents a diluted share compared to net loss of $8.2 million or 21 cents a share a year ago earlier.
Bonanza Creek Energy, Inc ((BCEI)) slid 30 cents to $38.99 after the oil and gas stated sales in the fourth quarter ending in December surged 110% to $73.6 million from the same period of last year. In the quarter, net income swung to $13 million or 32 cents a diluted share compared to net loss of $0.18 million or 1 cent a share a year ago period.
Carnival Corporation ((CCL)) slipped 1.7% or 59 cents to $35.15 after the cruise company reported total revenues in the first quarter ending in February nearly flat to $3.59 billion from the same period of last year. Net income in the quarter swung to $37 million or 5 cents a diluted share compared to net loss of $139 million or 18 cents a share a year ago.
The Carnival forecasts full year non-GAAP diluted earnings per share to be in the range of $1.80 to $2.10.
Hibbett Sports, Inc ((HIBB)) surged 5.2% or $2.76 to $56.30 after the sporting goods retailer reported net sales in the fourth quarter ending on February 2 surged 14% to $217.4 million from the same period of last year. The comparable sales in the quarter increased 4.9%.
Net income in the quarter climbed 22% to $19.4 million or 73 cents a diluted share compared to $15.8 million or 59 cents a share a year ago.
For the year, the sporting goods retailer expects diluted earnings per share between $2.85 and $3.05 and an increase in comparable store sales in the low to mid-single digit range.
Nortek, Inc. ((NTK)) fell 70 cents to $73.54 after the heating appliances maker said net sales in the fourth quarter ending in December dropped 6% to $505.4 million from the same period of last year. Net loss in the quarter widened to $12.5 million or 82 cents a diluted share compared to $0.8 million or 5 cents a share a year ago period.
Ulta Salon, Cosmetics & Fragrance, Inc. ((ULTA)) plunged 14.3% or $12.68 to $75.69 after the beauty products retailer reported net sales in the fourth quarter ending on February 2 jumped 30% to $758.8 million from the same period of last year. The comparable sales in the quarter surged 8%.
Net income in the quarter climbed 39% to $64.5 million or $1 a diluted share compared to $46.1 million or 73 cents a share a year ago.
For the first quarter, the retailer expects net sales in the range of $568 million to $577 million and income per diluted share between 60 cents to 63 cents.
