Barnes & Noble third quarter net swung to a loss. Beacon Roofing fourth quarter net dropped 11%. Infoblox first quarter loss widened. Kroger third quarter net climbed 62% and Tiffany quarterly net plunged 30%.

Aeropostale, Inc. ((ARO)) declined 8.5% or $1.20 to $12.96 after the apparel retailer said net sales in the third quarter ending on October 27 grew 2% to $605.9 million from $596.5 million in the same period of last year. Comparable sales in the quarter slid 1%.
Net income in the quarter increased 4% to $24.9 million or 31 cents a diluted share compared to $24.1 million or 30 cents a share a year ago earlier.
The company''s e-commerce business for the quarter increased 12% to $51.1 million.
The retailer expects adjusted earnings for the fourth quarter in the range of 36 cents to 41 cents per diluted share.
American Eagle Outfitters, Inc ((AEO)) increased 1.3% or 27 cents to $21.03 after the specialty retailer reported net sales in the third quarter ending on October 27 jumped 11% to $910.4 million from $819.4 million in the same period of last year. Comparable sales in the quarter climbed 10%.
Net income in the quarter advanced 9% to $78.6 million or 39 cents a diluted share compared to $52.4 million or 27 cents a share a year ago.
In the third quarter, company’s online sales soared 27% and gross profit surged 21% to $379 million and increased 350 basis points to 41.6% and operating income increased 39% to $129 million.
For the fourth quarter, retailer now expects earnings per share between 54 cents and 56 cents and for the year earnings per share from continuing operations of $1.38 to $1.40.
Barnes & Noble, Inc. ((BKS)) plummeted 7.9% or $1.28 to $14.85 after the bookseller said revenues in the third quarter ending on October 27 were flat at $1.88 billion. Net income in the quarter swung to $2.23 million or 4 cents a diluted share compared to net loss of $6.56 million or 17 cents a share a year ago earlier.
Beacon Roofing Supply, Inc ((BECN)) gained 19 cents to $31.44 after the roofing materials distributor stated total sales in the fourth quarter ending in September increased 4% to $598.1 million from $575.6 million in the same period of last year. Net income in the quarter dropped 11% to $27.9 million or 58 cents a diluted share compared to $31.3 million or 67 cents a share a year ago period.
Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Inc ((CBRL)) slipped 2% or $1.30 to $63.80 after the restaurants operator reported total revenue in the first quarter ending on November 2 climbed 5% to $627.5 million from $598.4 million in the same period of last year. Comparable store restaurant sales in the quarter increased 3.3%.
Net income in the quarter slid 3% to $23.2 million or 97 cents a diluted share compared to $23.8 million or $1.03 cents a share a year ago earlier.
For fiscal 2013, the company expects total revenue between $2.6 billion and $2.65 billion and adjusted earnings per diluted share in the range of $4.50 to $4.70.
Guess, Inc. ((GES)) advanced 3.1% or 80 cents to $26.08 after the apparel and accessory retailer stated net sales in the third quarter ending on October 27 slid 2% to $628.8 million from $642.8 million in the same period of last year. Comparable sales in the quarter declined 6%.
Net earnings in the quarter plunged 45% to $36.6 million or 43 cents a diluted share compared to $66.3 million or 71 cents a share a year ago quarter.
North America segment revenue in the quarter fell 1.3% to $262.1 million. Net revenue from Europe segment dropped 8.3% to $202.6 million and from Asia increased 15.5% to $74.8 million.
The retailer expects fourth quarter net revenues in the range of $780 million to $800 million and diluted earnings per share between 85 cents and 95 cents.
For the full year, net revenues are expected between $2.62 billion and $2.64 billion and diluted earnings per share in the range of $2.05 to $2.15.
Infoblox, Inc. ((BLOX)) surged 29.9% or $4.16 to $18.10 after the software company said total revenue in the first quarter ending on October surged 26% to $49.5 million from $39.4 million in the same period of last year. Net loss in the quarter widened to $2.4 million or 5 cents a diluted share compared to $1.8 million or 16 cents a share a year ago earlier.
For the second quarter 2013, the company expects total net revenue in the range of $50 million to $51.5 million and for the fiscal year end total net revenue between $204 million and $208 million.
Royal Bank of Canada ((RY)) gained 43 cents to $59.22 after the Canada based bank stated net revenue in the fourth quarter ending in October surged 14% to $8 billion from $7 billion in the same period of last year. Net income in the quarter soared 19% to $1.9 billion or $1.26 a diluted share compared to $1.6 billion or $1.06 a share a year ago.
The Kroger Co ((KR)) jumped 3.3 or 85 cents to $25.91 after the retailer reported sales in the third quarter ending in November jumped 5% to $22 billion from $21 billion in the same period of last year. Net earnings in the quarter climbed 62% to $317 million or 60 cents a diluted share compared to $196 million or 33 cents a share a year ago.
Tiffany & Co. ((TIF)) slumped 7.7% or $4.80 to $58.93 after the jewelry retailer reported net sales in the third quarter ending in October increased 4% to $853 million from $822 million in the same period of last year. Net earnings in the quarter plunged 30% to $63 million or 49 cents a diluted share compared to $90 million or 70 cents a share a year ago.
