[R]7:00 PM Tokyo – Stocks in Tokyo advanced for the fourth day in a row as investors took bet for the change of power in the general election next month and see more stimulating measures from the central bank. The Nikkei index closed at a 2-month high and the yen fell to a 7-month low.[/R]

Stocks in Tokyo extended gains for the fourth day in a row and the Nikkei index advanced 1.4% in the session and stretched the market gain to 5.7% and closed at a 2-month high.

Investors bid up stocks after Liberal Democratic Party leader Shizo Abe repeated a call on the Bank of Japan to stimulate the economy more and weaken the yen.

The stocks were powered for the fourth day on the hopes that the opposition party may win the next general election scheduled on December 16 and ease restrictions on the utilities companies to access nuclear power, weaken the yen further and look for more stimulating measures from the central bank.

The Nikkei 225 Stock Average jumped 129.04 or 1.4% to 9,153.20 and the broader Topix Index climbed 10.82 or 1.4% to 762.16.

The yen fell to a 7-month high to 81.57 to a dollar and rose to 103.81 yen from 103.15 at the close of Friday.
