U.S. Movers: Church & Dwight, Humana, Rockwell, Time Warner

    Church & Dwight third quarter net jumped 18%. Humana third quarter net declined 4% but lifted outlooks and agreed to buy Metropolitan Health for $850 million and also agreed to acquire Certify Data Systems. Time Warner net surged 127%.

Bruker Corporation ((BRKR)) surged 10.4% or $1.32 to $13.91 after the scientific instruments maker said revenue in the third quarter ending in September increased 7% to $447.8 million from $418.4 million in the same period of last year. Net income in the quarter climbed 101% to $39.7 million or 24 cents a diluted share compared to $19.8 million or 12 cents a share a year ago earlier.

The company lifted its expected full year revenue guidance between $1.73 billion and $1.76 billion and adjusted diluted earnings per share in the range of 75 cents to 79 cents.

Church & Dwight Co., Inc. ((CHD)) gained 2.6% or $1.35 to $52.44 after the specialty products maker reported revenue in the third quarter ending in September grew 4% to $725.2 million from $701 million in the same period of last year. Net income in the quarter jumped 18% to $93.9 million or 66 cents a diluted share compared to $79.6 million or 54 cents a share a year ago.

On October 1, the company acquired Avid Health, Inc for aggregate purchase price of about $650 million.

The company lifted earnings per share guidance for fiscal 2012 and now expects $2.43 including Avid purchase from the previous guidance of $2.39 to $2.41 and for fiscal 2013 between $2.74 and $2.79, an increase of nearly 13% to 15%.

Endo Health Solutions Inc ((ENDP)) slipped 3.8% or $1.14 to $28.09 after the pharmaceutical company stated total revenues in the third quarter ending in September slid 1% to $750.4 million from $759.1 million in the same period of last year. Net income in the quarter soared 33% to $53.8 million or 45 cents a diluted share compared to $40.6 million or 34 cents a share a year ago period.

For the full year, Endo Health estimates total revenue of about $3.05 billion and diluted earnings per share in the range of 87 cents to 97 cents.

Genesee & Wyoming Inc. ((GWR)) climbed 3.1% or $2.23 to $73.70 after the railroad service provider said revenues in the third quarter ending in September increased 2.5% to $222.7 million from $217.2 million in the same period of last year. Net loss in the quarter swung to $19.6 million or 47 cents a diluted share compared to net income of $32.9 million or 77 cents a share a year ago quarter.

Humana Inc. ((HUM)) dropped 72 cents to $74.51 after the health insurance provider reported revenue in the third quarter ending in September climbed 4% to $9.65 billion from $9.30 billion in the same period of last year. Net income in the quarter declined 4% to $426 million or $2.62 a diluted share compared to $445 million or $2.67 a share a year ago.

The company anticipates earnings per share of approx $7.25 to $7.35 for the fiscal 2012 from previous estimate of $6.90 to $7.10 and revenue growth of $39 billion to $39.5 billion.

For the fiscal 2013, Humana lifted earnings per share guidance and expects earnings in the range of $7.60 to $7.80 a growth of 5% and revenues in the range between $40.8 billion to $41.3 billion.

Humana Inc said today it agreed to buy Metropolitan Health Networks, in a transaction valued nearly $850 million. Under the terms, stockholders of Metropolitan will receive $11.25 per share in cash and the transaction is expected to close by the end of first quarter of 2013.

In a separate press note of today, Humana has also acquired Certify Data Systems, a health information exchange technology but terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Rockwell Automation, Inc. ((ROK)) increased 2% or $1.52 to $76.88 after the communications equipments provider stated sales in the third quarter ending in September grew 1% to $1.66 billion from $1.65 billion in the same period of last year. Net income in the quarter dropped 3% to $195.2 million or $1.38 a diluted share compared to $201.8 million or $1.39 a share a year ago period.

The company provided fiscal 2013 sales outlook between $6.35 billion and $6.65 billion a growth of 1% to 5% and adjusted earnings per share in the range of $5.35 to $5.75.

Sysco Corporation ((SYY)) declined 2.4% or 78 cents to $30.53 after the food product distributor said revenues in the first quarter ending in September jumped 5% to $11.1 billion from $10.6 billion in the same period of last year. Net earnings in the quarter declined 5% to $286.6 million or 49 cents a diluted share compared to $302.6 million or 51 cents a share a year ago earlier.

Time Warner Cable Inc. ((TWC)) dropped 4.9% or $4.88 to $93.29 after the broadband cable service provider said revenues in the third quarter ending in September advanced 9% to $5.36 billion from $4.91 billion in the same period of last year. Net income in the quarter surged 127% to $808 million or $2.60 a diluted share compared to $356 million or $1.08 a share a year ago.

The company added revenues in residential services climbed 7% to $4.5 billion and business services revenues soared 27.4% to $493 million and revenues in advertising jumped 22.2% to $264 million.

The Southern Company ((SO)) decreased 1.8% or 85 cents to $44.92 after the electric service provider stated revenues in the third quarter ending in September advanced 9% to $5.05 billion from $5.43 billion in the same period of last year. Net income in the quarter climbed 7% to $976 million or $1.11 a diluted share compared to $916 million or $1.07 a share a year ago.
