French Deficit Narrowed, German Production Ahead of Expectations

German Production Rises

Industrial production in Germany rose more than estimated in May, the latest data from the Ministry of Economics and Technology showed today.

Production in Germany on a seasonal and calendar adjusted basis increased 1.6% on a monthly basis in May compared to the revised 2.1% decline in April.

Manufacturing output grew 1.8% from a month ago in May mainly driven by a 3.8% expansion in production of consumer goods.

French Deficit Narrows

France''s merchandise trade deficit narrowed to €5.33 billion in June from €5.77 billion in April, data released by the Directorate General of Customs and Excise showed.

Export rose to €37.44 billion in May from €36.97 billion in April.

Imports remained broadly unchanged from the previous month at €42.7 billion in May, data showed.

Swedish Jobless Rate Falls

Sweden''s unemployment rate declined to 4.4% in June from 4.5% a year earlier according to the data released by the Public Employment Service showed today.

The number of persons registered as unemployed in June rose to 45,366 from 44,603 recorded in May.

Spanish Output Drops

Spanish industrial production declined in May, data released by the statistics office INE showed today.

The calendar-adjusted industrial production dropped 6.1% from a year ago in May following an 8.3% fall in April.

Swiss Consumer Prices Decreases

Consumer prices in Switzerland slid in June, data released by the Federal Statistics Office showed today.

The consumer price index declined 1.1% on an annual basis in June compared to the 1% fall in May.

Food and non-alcoholic beverages prices decreased 1.8% annually, while clothing and footwear prices fell 7.5% in June.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices decreased 0.3% in June.
