U.S. Movers: ANN, Aeropostale, Air Lease, Hibbett Sports, Cooper Companies

ANN Inc. ((ANN)) gained 5.8% or $1.53 to $27.39 after the women’s apparel retailer reported fourth quarter net sales increased to $566.7 million from $515.3 million in the same quarter last year. Comparable sales increased 5.3%. Net income in the quarter slumped to $2.18 million or 4 cents per diluted share compared to $7.97 million or 14 cents per share in the year ago earlier.

For 2011 net sales grew to $2.2 billion from $2.0 billion in last year. Comparable sales increased 6.8%. Net income for the year increased to $86.6 million or $1.64 per diluted share compared to $73.4 million or $1.24 per share in the prior year.

Air Lease Corp. ((AL)) increased 3.1% or 75 cents to $24.60 after the company engaged in purchasing commercial aircraft said fourth quarter revenues increased 25% to $115.1 million. Net income generated in the quarter was $24.8 million or 24 cents per diluted share compared with a loss of $2.7 million or 4 cents per share last year.

Aeropostale, Inc. ((ARO)) increased 2% or 38 cents to $19.33 after the specialty retailer reported fourth quarter net sales fell 4% to $808.4 million from $839.3 million in the same quarter last year. Same store sales decreased 9%. Net income in the quarter declined to $26.1 million or 32 cents per diluted share compared to $83.8 million or 95 cents per share in the year ago earlier.

For 2011 net sales fell 2% to $2.34 billion from $2.40 billion in last year. Same store sales decreased 9%. Net income for the year declined to $69.5 million or 85 cents per diluted share compared to $231.3 million or $2.49 per share in the prior year.

Ferrellgas Partners, L.P. ((FGP)) fell 15 cents to $17.09 after the propane gas distributor reported second quarter revenue fell to $829.3 million from $841 million in the same quarter last year. Net earnings in the quarter surged 64% to $36.8 million or 47 cents per diluted share compared to $22.4 million or 31 cents per diluted share in the year ago period.

Hibbett Sports, Inc. ((HIBB)) fell 10 cents to $51.54 after the sports goods retailer reported fourth quarter net sales increased 10% to $190.7 million from $173.2 million in the same quarter last year. Comparable store sales increased 7.2%. Net income in the quarter soared 27% to $15.8 million or 59 cents per diluted share compared to $12.5 million or 44 cents per share in the year ago earlier.

For 2011 net sales increased 10% to $732.6 million from $665.0 billion in last year. Comparable store sales increased 6.8%. Net income for the year increased 27.3% to $59.1 million or $2.15 per diluted share compared to $46.4 million or $1.60 per share in the prior year.

Piedmont Natural Gas Company, Inc. ((PNY)) rose 16 cents to $32.57 after the energy service provider reported first quarter revenues decreased 28% to $471.8 million from $652.1 million in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter slipped 10% to $76.2 million or $1.05 per diluted share compared to $84.4 million or $1.16 per diluted share in the year ago quarter.

The Cooper Companies, Inc. ((COO)) increased 4.7% or $3.74 to $82.67 after the medical products provider reported first quarter revenues increased 11% to $326.1 million from $293.2 million in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter increased to $54.6 million or $1.12 per diluted share compared to $39.2 million or 83 cents per diluted share in the year ago.

Texas Instruments Inc. ((TXN)) fell 44 cents to $32.16 after the electronic chip maker lowered its first quarter revenue expectations between $2.99 billion to $3.11 billion compared to prior range of $3.02 to 3.28 billion and earnings per share would be 15 to 19 cents compared to prior range of 16 to 24 cents. The reductions in revenue are due to lower demand in wireless products.

Ulta Salon, Cosmetics & Fragrance, Inc. ((ULTA)) increased 1.6% or $1.45 to $87.82 after the specialty retailer reported fourth quarter net sales surged 23% to $582.5 million from $473.7 million in the same quarter last year. Comparable store sales increased 11.5%. Net income in the quarter soared 54% to $46.3 million or 73 cents per diluted share compared to $30.1 million or 49 cents per share in the year ago earlier.

For 2011 net sales increased 22% to $1.78 billion from $1.45 billion in last year. Comparable store sales increased 10.9%. Net income for the year surged 69% to $120.3 million or $1.90 per diluted share compared to $71.0 million or $1.16 per share in the prior year.
