Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. ((APD)) decreased 2.7% or $2.45 to $87.47 after the specialty gas producer reported first quarter revenue rose 1% to $2.42 billion from $2.39 billion in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter fell to $248.1 million or $1.16 per diluted share compared to $268.6 million or $1.23 per diluted share in the year ago.
Ashland Inc. ((ASH)) increased 3.7% or $2.25 to $62.71 after the plastics and rubber maker reported first quarter revenue increased 6% to $1.93 billion from $1.43 billion in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter decreased to $61 million or $0.77 per diluted share compared to $99 million or $1.25 per diluted share in the year ago earlier.
Baker Hughes Inc ((BHI)) increased 1.5% or 75 cents to $47.15 after the oilfield service provider reported fourth quarter revenue soared 22% to $5.39 billion from $4.42 billion in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter slipped to $314 million or 72 cents per diluted share compared to $335 million or 77 cents per diluted share in the year ago period.
Coach, Inc. ((COH)) gained 5.7% or 3.71 to $67.95 after the apparel and gifts marketer reported second quarter revenue increased 15% to $1.45 billion from $1.26 billion in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter increased to $347.5 million or $1.18 per diluted share compared to $303.4 million or $1 per diluted share in the year ago quarter.
CSX Corporation ((CSX)) slipped 3.4% or 79 cents to $21.90 after the transportation service provider reported fourth quarter revenue rose 5% to $2.95 billion from $2.82 billion in the same quarter last year. Net earnings in the quarter increased 6% to $457 million or 43 cents per diluted share compared to $430 million or 38 cents per diluted share in the year ago.
EI DuPont de Nemours & Company ((DD)) fell 0.3% or 17 cents to $49.18 after the chemical company reported fourth quarter sales grew 14% to $8.43 billion from $7.40 billion. Net income in the quarter fell 0.8% to $373 million compared to net income of $376 million in the prior year. Earnings per share remained flat with last year at 40 cents per diluted share.
Harley-Davidson, Inc. ((HOG)) rose 1.3% or 57 cents to $42.44 after the motorcycles maker revenue increased to $1.02 billion from $0.92 billion in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter swung to $105.7 million or 46 cents per diluted share compared to net loss of $46.8 million or 20 cents per diluted share in the year ago earlier.
Johnson & Johnson ((JNJ)) rose 0.08% or 5 cents to $65.08 after the health care products maker reported fourth quarter sales grew 3.9% to $16.26 billion from $15.64 billion in the prior-year quarter. Net earnings in the quarter slumped 89% to $218 million or 8 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $1.94 billion or 70 cents per share a year ago.
Worldwide sales for the full-year 2011 increased of 5.6% $65 billion from 2010. Net earnings and diluted earnings per share for the full-year 2011 were $9.7 billion and $3.49 respectively.
Kansas City Southern ((KSU)) slipped 8.1% or $5.87 to $66.45 after the rail transportation company reported fourth quarter revenue increased 11% to $530.3 million from $478.6 million in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter soared to $95.6 million or 87 cents per diluted share compared to $51.8 million or 50 cents per diluted share in the year ago earlier.
McDonald’s Corporation ((MCD)) decreased 1.7% or $1.67 to $99.21 after the restaurant operator reported fourth quarter total revenue rose 10% to $6.82 billion from $6.21 billion in the same quarter last year. Global comparable sales increased 7.5%. Net income in the quarter increased 11% to $1.38 billion or $1.33 per diluted share compared to $1.24 billion or $1.16 per diluted share in the year ago.
Texas Instruments Inc ((TXN)) fell 0.9% or 30 cents to $32.89 after the semiconductor maker reported fourth quarter revenue fell 3% to $3.4 billion from $3.5 billion in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter slumped 68% to $298 million or 25 cents per diluted share compared to $942 million or 78 cents per diluted share in the year ago period.
Verizon Communications Inc. ((VZ)) decreased 1.6% or 65 cents to $37.75 after the communications service provider reported fourth quarter total revenue increased 7.7% to $28.4 billion from $26.4 billion in the same quarter last year. Net loss in the quarter swung to $0.21 billion or 71 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $4.6 billion or 93 cents per diluted share in the year ago.
VMware, Inc. ((VMW)) increased 6.5% or $5.63 to $91.63 after the software company reported fourth quarter revenue soared 27% to $1.06 billion from $0.83 billion in the same quarter last year. Net earnings in the quarter increased 6% to $200.4 million or 46 cents per diluted share compared to $119.9 million or 28 cents per diluted share in the year ago quarter.
