Applied Materials fourth quarter net decreased 2.6% to $456 million. NetApp second quarter net declined 5.6% to $165.6 million. Sears Holdings third quarter net loss widened 93.1% to $421 million. J. M. Smucker second quarter net loss narrowed 15% to $127.2 million.

Applied Materials, Inc. ((AMAT)) decreased 6.3% or 81 cents to $11.66 after the semiconductors maker reported fourth quarter net sales declined 24% to $2.18 billion from $2.89 billion in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter decreased 2.6% to $456 million or 34 cents per diluted share compared to $468 million or 35 per share a year ago earlier.
Donaldson Company, Inc. ((DCI)) slipped 2.2% or $1.54 to $66.60 after the filtration systems maker reported first quarter revenue increased 13% to $608.3 million from $536.9 million in the same quarter last year. Net earnings in the quarter soared 29% to $68.5 million or 90 cents per diluted share compared to $53.1 million or 68 cents per share a year ago quarter.
Dollar Tree, Inc. ((DLTR)) fell 0.3% or 23 cents to $75.82 after the discount stores reported third quarter net sales increased 11.9% to $1.60 billion from $1.43 billion in the same quarter last year. Comparable store sales increased 4.8%. Net income in the quarter increased to $104.5 million or 87 cents per diluted share compared to $93.2 million or 73 per share a year ago earlier.
Helmerich & Payne, Inc. ((HP)) rose 0.8% or 47 cents to $55.72 after the oil and gas driller reported fourth quarter revenues increased to $700.8 million from $559.0 million in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter increased to $121.4 million or $1.01 per diluted share compared to $83.0 million or $1.11 per share a year ago earlier.
NetApp, Inc. ((NTAP)) dropped 11.3% or $4.64 to $36.10 after the storage and data management solution provider reported second quarter revenues rose 20.5% to $1.507 billion, from $1.251 billion a year ago. Net earnings in the quarter declined 5.6% to $165.6 million or 44 cents per diluted share compared to net earnings of $175.4 million or 45 cents per share last year.
Perry Ellis International, Inc. ((PERY)) tumbled 33.5% or $7.24 to $14.20 after the apparel company reported third quarter total revenues increased 23% to $248.4 million from $201.3 million in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter fell to $6.5 million or 40 cents per diluted share compared to $7.2 million or 51 cents per share a year ago earlier.
Sears Holdings Corporation ((SHLD)) decreased 4.8% or $3.27 to $65.03 after the specialty retailer reported third quarter total revenues, from merchandise sales and services, decreased 1.1% to $9.57 billion from $9.68 billion a year ago. Net loss in the quarter widened 93.1% to $421 million or $3.95 per share compared to $218 million or $1.98 per share in the prior year.
Stage Stores, Inc. ((SSI)) increased 1.5% or 22 cents to $14.06 after the specialty department store reported third quarter net sales increased to $333.5 million from $331.9 million in the same quarter last year. Net loss in the quarter widened to $11.3 million or 36 cents per diluted share compared to $6.9 million or 18 per share a year ago earlier.
Stein Mart, Inc. ((SMRT)) rose 0.1% or 1 cent to $6.25 after the fashion apparel retailer reported third quarter net sales decreased 3.5% to $258.5 million from $267.9 million in the same quarter last year. Comparable store sales decreased 2.9 %. Net loss in the quarter swung to $1.8 million or 4 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $4.3 million or 10 per share a year ago quarter.
Sally Beauty Holdings, Inc. ((SBH)) decreased 3.7% or 77 cents to $19.69 after the retail stores operator reported fourth quarter net sales increased 12% to $837.2 million from $747.8 million in the same quarter last year. Same store sales increased 5.6 %. Net earnings in the quarter soared 29.3% to $54 million or 29 cents per diluted share compared to $42.0 million or 23 per share a year ago period.
The J. M. Smucker Company ((SJM)) fell 0.7% or 58 cents to $72.60 after the food products maker reported second quarter net sales increased 18% to $1.51 billion from $1.79 billion in the same quarter last year. Net loss in the quarter 15% to $127.2 million or $1.12 per diluted share compared to $149.7 million or $1.25 per share a year ago earlier.
The Cato Corporation ((CATO)) gained 1.7% or 44 cents to $25.58 after the fashion specialty store retailer reported third quarter total revenues decreased to $196.7 million from $201.0 million in the same quarter last year. Same-store sales for the quarter decreased 3%. Net income in the quarter increased 4% to $6.1 million or 21 cents per diluted share compared to $5.9 million or 20 cents per share a year ago period.
The Children''s Place Retail Stores, Inc. ((PLCE)) soared 14.4% or $6.50 to $51.50 after the children''s apparel retailer reported third quarter net sales increased 7% to $484.1 million from $453.4 million in the same quarter last year. Comparable retail sales increased 0.9% in the quarter. Net income in the quarter rose to $33.7 million or $1.33 per diluted share compared to $31.3 million or $1.15 per share a year ago earlier.
The Buckle, Inc. ((BKE)) slipped 5.7% or $2.20 to $39.77 after the casual apparel, footwear, and accessories retailer reported third quarter net sales grew 12.4% to $273.4 million from $243.3 million in the same quarter last year. Comparable retail sales increased 9.1% in the quarter. Net income in the quarter rose to $38.3 million or 81 cents per diluted share compared to $34.4 million or 73 cents per share a year ago earlier.
Williams-Sonoma, Inc. ((WSM)) increased 1.8% or 71 cents to $38.25 after the furniture and fixtures maker reported third quarter revenue decreased 6.3% to $867 million from $816 million in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter increased to $43.4 million or 41 cents per diluted share compared to $36.5 million or 34 per share a year ago earlier.
