[R]11:15 AM New York – Dick’s Sporting third quarter net increased 14.7% to $451 million. Home Depot third quarter net increased 12% to $934 million and Staples third quarter net rose 13% to $326.4 million. TJX third quarter net increased 15% to $406.5 million and Wal-Mart quarterly net fell 2.9% to $3.33 billion.[/R]

Cellcom Israel Ltd. ((CEL)) decreased 2.6% or 56 cents to $20.31 after the Israel based communications service provider reported third quarter total revenue fell to $448.5 million from $465.8 million in the year-ago quarter. Net income in the quarter decreased to $53.6 million or 54 cents per diluted share compared to $89.4 million or 91 cents per share in the year ago period.

Covidien Public Limited Company ((COV)) rose 0.2% or 10 cents to $47.41 after the Ireland based healthcare products maker reported fourth quarter net sales increased 15% to $3.08 billion from $2.67 billion in the year-ago quarter. Net income in the quarter increased 14.7% to $451 million or 92 cents per diluted share compared to $443 million or 89 cents per share in the year ago earlier.

Dick’s Sporting Goods, Inc. ((DKS)) increased 2.4% or 95 cents to $40.53 after the sporting goods retailer reported third quarter net sales increased 9.3% to $1.2 billion from $1.1 million in the year-ago quarter. Consolidated same store sales increase 4.1%. Net income in the quarter rose 3.5% to $41.5 million or 33 cents per diluted share compared to $16.9 million or 14 cents per share in the year ago quarter.

The Home Depot, Inc. ((HD)) rose 0.1% or 6 cents to $38.31 after the home improvement retailer reported third quarter sales rose 4.4% to $17.3 billion from $16.6 billion in the year-ago quarter. Comparable store sales increased 4.2%.

Net earnings in the quarter increased 12% to $934 million or 60 cents per diluted share compared to $834 million or 51 cents per share in the year ago.

Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. ((JEC)) gained 4.4% or $1.70 to $39.84 after the architectural service provider reported fourth quarter grew to $2.72 billion from $2.34 billion in the year-ago quarter. Net earnings in the quarter increased to $94.3 million or 74 cents per diluted share compared to $77.0 million or 61 cents per share in the year ago quarter.

Pernix Therapeutics Holdings, Inc. ((PTX)) fell 0.3% or 3 cents to $9.22 after the pharmaceutical company said third quarter net revenue soared 120% to $17.1 million from $7.8 million in the year-ago quarter. Net income in the quarter fell to $2.0 million or 8 cents per diluted share compared to $2.4 million or 10 cents per share in the year ago quarter.

Staples, Inc. ((SPLS)) slipped 5.2% or 81 cents to $14.56 after the office products service provider reported third quarter total sales edged up 0.5% to $6.57 billion from $6.54 billion in the year-ago quarter. Net income in the quarter increased 13% to $326.4 million or 47 cents per diluted share compared to $288.7 million or 40 cents per share in the year ago period.

Saks Incorporated ((SKS)) rose 0.8% or 9 cents to $10.29 after the luxury fashion retailer reported third quarter net sales grew to $692.3 million from $658.8 million in the year-ago quarter. Comparable store sales increased 3%. Net income in the quarter decreased to $17.8 million or 11 cents per diluted share compared to $36.3 million or 20 cents per share in the year ago earlier.

The TJX Companies, Inc ((TJX)) fell 0.9% or 59 cents to $59.98 after the off-price apparel and home fashions retailer reported third quarter revenues grew 5% to $5.79 billion from $5.52 billion in the year-ago quarter. Comparable store sales increased 3%. Net income in the quarter increased 15% to $406.5 million or $1.06 per diluted share compared to $372.3 million or $0.92 per share in the year ago earlier.

Urban Outfitters, Inc. ((URBN)) decreased 3.2% or 88 cents to $25.95 after the lifestyle specialty retailer reported third quarter net sales increased 6% to $609.9 million from $573.6 million in the year-ago quarter. Comparable store sales decreased 3%. Net income in the quarter fell to $50.7 million or 33 cents per diluted share compared to $73.1 million or 43 cents per share in the year ago earlier.

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. ((WMT)) decreased 2.4% or $1.41 to $57.48 after the retail stores operator reported third quarter total revenues rose 8.1% to $110.2 billion from $101.9 billion in the year-ago quarter. Wal-Mart U.S. comparable sales increased 1.3% and Sam''s Club comp sales without fuel rose 5.7% and international net sales increased 20% to $32.4 billion.

Net income in the quarter fell 2.9% to $3.33 billion or 96 cents per diluted share compared to $3.44 billion or 95 cents per share in the year ago.
