AbitibiBowater Inc. ((ABH)) increased 1.1% or 20 cents to $17.21 after the forest products maker reported third quarter sales edged up to $1.22 billion from $1.19 billion in the previous year. Net loss in the quarter narrowed to $44 million or $0.46 per diluted share compared to $829 million or $14.35 per share a year ago period.

Armstrong World Industries, Inc. ((AWI)) decreased 1.7% or 78 cents to $44.22 after the construction and renovation company net sales rose 4.6% to $773.6 million from $739.8 million last year. Net income in the quarter doubled to $52.5 million or 89 cents per diluted share compared to $24.6 million or 42 cents per share last year.

HCP, Inc. ((HCP)) rose 0.2% or 9 cents to $40.10 after the real estate investment trust reported third quarter revenues increased to $444.7 million from $317.0 million in the year-ago quarter. Net income in the quarter surged to $166.4 million or 41 cents per diluted share compared to $17.0 million or 5 cents per share a year ago.

Humana Inc. ((HUM)) increased 6.9% or $5.56 to $85.86 after the health insurance benefit provider reported third quarter revenue rose 11.4% to $9.30 billion from $8.35 billion in the previous year. Net income in the quarter increased 13.1% to $444.8 million or $2.67 per diluted share compared to $393.2 million or $2.32 per share reported a year ago.

Honda Motor Co., Ltd. ((HMC)) dropped 7.7% or $2.51 to $30.04 after the Japan based auto and trucks maker reported second quarter revenue decreased 16.3% to 1,885.9 million yen from 2,251.9 million yen in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter declined 55.5% to 60.4 million yen or 33.53 yen per basic share compared to 135.9 million yen or 75.24 yen per share a year ago.

Haemonetics Corporation ((HAE)) slumped 8.2% or $5.27 to $58.58 after the medical devices maker reported second quarter revenue grew 7.6% to $179.4 million from $166.8 million in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter declined 35% to $13.9 million or 54 cents per diluted share compared to $21.3 million or 85 cents per share a year ago earlier.

Loews Corporation ((L)) slipped 2.3% or 98 cents to $40.30 after the property and casualty insurer reported third quarter total revenues fell to $3.44 billion from $3.70 billion in the previous year. Net income in the quarter soared to $162 million or 40 cents per diluted share compared to $36 million or 9 cents per share reported a year ago.

Mercury General Corporation ((MCY)) increased 3.3% or $1.49 to $45.67 after the insurance company reported third quarter net premium written rose 1.2% to $662.3 million from $654.7 million in the previous year. Net loss in the quarter was $3.8 million or $0.07 per diluted share compared to net income of $96.8 million or $1.77 per share reported a year ago period.

Sohu.com Inc. ((SOHU)) decreased 11.2% or $7.75 to $61.25 after the china based online media company reported third quarter total revenues soared 42% to $232.9 million from $164.1 million in the previous year. Net income in the quarter increased 17% to $46.8 million or $1.17 per diluted share compared to $41.0 million or $1.01 per share reported a year ago earlier.

The Shaw Group Inc ((SHAW)) increased 4.8% or $1.07 to $23.25 after the construction service provider reported fourth quarter revenues fell to $1.5 billion from $1.7 million in the year-ago quarter. Net loss in the quarter widened to $90.3 million or $1.25 per diluted share compared to $24.0 million or $0.28 per share in the year-ago period.

UDR, Inc. ((UDR)) fell 0.9% or 24 cents to $24.62 the real estate investment company reported third quarter revenues grew to $187.3 million from $150.1 million in the year-ago quarter. Net loss in the quarter narrowed to $15.6 million or 7 cents per diluted share compared to $26.1 million or 16 cents per share in the year-ago period.

UniSource Energy Corporation ((UNS)) decreased 3.1% or $1.21 to $37.22 after the holding company reported third quarter total revenues rose 2.8% to $450.9 million from $438.8 million in the previous year. Net income in the quarter increased 7.3% to $59.7 million or $1.46 per diluted share compared to $55.6 million or $1.38 per share reported a year ago quarter.
