    Aflac second quarter net earnings declined 52%. CME second quarter net rose 8% to $293.7 million. Exxon Mobil second quarter net income surged 41% to $10.7 billion. E.I. du Pont second quarter net income rose 5% to $1.2 billion. Royal Dutch Shell second quarter net income surged 97% to $8.7 billion.

Of the stocks in the Dow Jones Industrial Average, Cisco Systems, Inc. led the gainers with a rise of 2.94% followed by increase in Microsoft Corporation of 2.45%, in E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company of 2.02%, in The Boeing Company of 1.94%, in General Electric Company of 1.77%.

Exxon Mobil Corporation led the decliners with a fall of 1.37%, followed by decline in The Travelers Companies, Inc. of 0.82%, in AT&T Inc. of 0.80%, in Verizon Communications Inc. of 0.33%, in Hewlett-Packard Company of 0.30%.

Airgas, Inc. ((ARG)) decreased 1.6% or $1.10 to $69.60 after the industrial, medical and gases distributor reported first quarter sales increased 11% to $1.2 billion from $1.0 billion in the same quarter last year. Total same-store sales grew 9%. Net earnings in the quarter rose to $74.8 million or 93 cents per diluted share compared to $64.8 million or 76 cents per share a year ago.

AmerisourceBergen Corporation ((ABC)) decreased 1.7% or 68 cents to $38.33 after the healthcare provider reported third quarter revenue rose 2.9% to $20.2 billion from $19.6 billion in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter increased 13% to $184.4 million or 66 cents per diluted share compared to $163.2 million or 57 cents per share a year ago.

Aflac Inc ((AFL)) increased 6.1% or $2.70 to $46.85 after the insurance company reported second quarter total revenue rose 2.2% to $5.1 billion from $5.0 billion in the same quarter last year. Net earnings in the quarter declined 51.9% to $280 million or $0.60 per diluted share compared to $581 million or $1.23 per share in the prior-year quarter.

Ameriprise Financial, Inc. ((AMP)) increased 6.6% or $3.44 to $55.01 after the investment company reported second quarter total revenue increased 7% to $2.6 billion from $2.4 billion in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter decreased to $309 million or $1.25 per diluted share compared to $259 million or $0.97 per share a year ago.

Ball Corporation ((BLL)) decreased 1.5% or 62 cents to $38.66 after the metal packaging company reported second quarter sales increased to $2.0 billion from $1.7 billion in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter increased to $143.1 million or 84 cents per diluted share compared to $69 million or 37 cents per share a year earlier.

Celgene Corporation ((CELG)) increased 2.7% or $1.64 to $61.10 after the biopharmaceutical company reported second quarter total revenue increased to $1.18 billion from $0.85 billion in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter increased to $279.4 million or 59 cents per diluted share compared to $155 million or 33 cents per share a year earlier.

CME Group Inc. ((CME)) increased 2.8% or $7.87 to $286.38 after the investment company reported second quarter net revenue rose 3% to $838.3 million from $813.9 million in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter increased 8% to $293.7 million or $4.38 per diluted share compared to $270.7 million or $4.11 per share a year ago.

Coca-Cola Enterprises, Inc. ((CCE)) decreased 2.8% or 83 cents to $28.50 after the beverages producer reported second quarter revenue increased 22% to $2.41 billion from $1.73 billion in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter increased to $246 million or 74 cents per diluted share compared to $199 million or 59 cents per share a year earlier.

Canadian Pacific Railway Limited ((CP)) increased 4.4% or $2.70 to $63.82 after the Canada based railroad company reported second quarter total revenue rose to $1.26 billion from $1.23 billion in the same quarter last year. Net earnings in the quarter decreased to $128 million or 75 cents per diluted share compared to $166 million or 98 cents per share in the prior-year quarter.

Cliffs Natural Resources Inc. ((CLF)) decreased 2.9% or $2.77 to $90.82 after the mining company reported second quarter revenue soared 52% to $1.8 billion from $1.2 billion in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter surged to $407.7 million or $2.92 per diluted share compared to $260.7 million or $1.92 per share a year ago.

Exxon Mobil Corporation ((XOM)) decreased 1.6% or $1.34 to $81.97 after the petrochemicals company reported second quarter total revenue soared 36% to $125.5 billion from $92.5 billion in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter surged 41% to $10.7 billion or $2.18 per diluted share compared to $7.6 billion or $1.60 per share a year ago.

E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company ((DD)) increased 1.5% or 79 cents to $53.07 after the range of products maker reported second quarter sales increased 19% to $10.5 billion from $9.1 billion in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter increased 5% to $1.22 billion or $1.29 per diluted share compared to $1.16 billion or $1.26 per share in the prior-year quarter.

General Dynamics Corporation ((GD)) rose 0.5% or 36 cents to $68.99 after the aerospace and defense products provider reported second quarter revenue fell 2.8% to $7.9 billion from $8.1 billion in the same quarter last year. Net earnings in the quarter rose 0.8% to $653 million or $1.76 per diluted share compared to $648 million or $1.67 per share a year earlier.

General Dynamics completed the acquisition of Fortress Technologies, Inc and is expected to be accretive to beginning in 2012.

International Paper Company ((IP)) increased 4.4% or $1.33 to $31.20 after the paper and packaging company reported second quarter net sales rose to $6.6 billion from $6.1 billion in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter soared to $224 million or 52 cents per diluted share compared to $93 million or 21 cents per share in the prior-year quarter.

Kellogg Company ((K)) rose 0.4% or 25 cents to $55.79 after the ready-to-eat foods maker reported second quarter sales increased 11% to $3.4 billion from $3.1 billion in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter increased 19% to $343 million or 94 cents per diluted share compared to $302 million or 79 cents per share a year earlier.

L-3 Communications Holdings, Inc. ((LLL)) increased 2.7% or $2.20 to $81.32 after the aerospace and defense contractor reported second quarter net sales fell 5% to $3.8 billion from $4.0 billion in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter rose 7% to $243 million or $2.26 per diluted share compared to $228 million or $1.95 per share a year ago.

The company today announced that the Board approved plan to spin off to L-3 shareholders 100% of new independent publicly traded government services company.

The transaction intended to be tax-free to L-3 and expected to complete in first half of 2012. The new public company is named Engility.

Mead Johnson Nutrition Company ((MJN)) increased 7.1% or $4.84 to $72.32 after the pediatric nutrition company reported second quarter net sales increased 22% to $932.0 million from $764.2 million in the same quarter last year. Net earnings in the quarter rose to $132.1 million or 64 cents per diluted share compared to $121.4 million or 59 cents per share a year earlier.

Motorola Solutions, Inc. ((MSI)) increased 6.3% or $2.84 to $47.16 after the communication products provider reported second quarter total sales rose 6% to $2.0 billion from $1.9 billion in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter increased to $349 million or 17 cents per diluted share compared to $162 million or 1 cent per share in the prior-year quarter.

Morningstar, Inc. ((MORN)) increased 4.3% or $2.60 to $62.34 after the investment research provider reported second quarter revenue increased 18.3% to $161 million from $136.1 billion in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter rose to $26.5 million or 52 cents per diluted share compared to $18 million or 36 cents per share a year earlier.

Murphy Oil Corporation ((MUR)) decreased 5.9% or $3.96 to $62.96 after the oil and gas exploration reported second quarter revenue increased to $8.72 billion from $5.59 billion in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter rose to $311.6 million or $1.60 per diluted share compared to $272.3 million or $1.41 per share a year ago.

Royal Dutch Shell plc ((RDSA)) fell 0.6% or $13.98 to $2,251.02 after the Netherlands based oil and gas company reported second quarter total revenue increased 35% to $124.6 billion from $91.7 billion in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter surged 97% to $8.7 billion or $1.39 per diluted share compared to $4.4 billion or $0.72 per share a year ago.

Rockwell Automation, Inc. ((ROK)) decreased 2% or $1.54 to $75.52 after the communications equipment provider reported third quarter sales increased 20% to $1.52 billion from $1.27 billion in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter increased to $179.5 million or $1.23 per diluted share compared to $119 million or $0.83 per share in the prior-year quarter.

Time Warner Cable Inc. ((TWC)) decreased 3.6% or $2.83 to $74.27 after the broadcasting and cable TV operator reported second quarter total revenue increased 4.4% to $4.9 billion from $4.7 billion in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter rose to $420 million or $1.24 per diluted share compared to $342 million or $0.95 per share a year ago.

Visa Inc. ((V)) fell 0.2% or 2 cents to $87.73 after the payments technology reported third quarter revenue increased 14% to $2.3 billion from $2.0 billion in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter rose to $1,005 million or $1.43 per diluted share compared to $716 million or $0.97 per share a year ago.

WellPoint, Inc. ((WLP)) rose 0.4% or 30 cents to $69.00 after the health benefits company reported second quarter revenue rose 4.8% to $14.9 billion from $14.2 billion in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter fell 2.9% to $701.6 million or $1.89 per diluted share compared to $722.4 million or $1.71 per share in the prior-year quarter.

Whole Foods Market, Inc. ((WFM)) increased 2.8% or $1.87 to $67.25 after the supermarket operator sales increased 11% to $2.4 billion from $2.2 billion in the same quarter last year. Comparable store sales increased 8.4%. Net income in the quarter increased to $88.5 million or 50 cents per diluted share compared to $65.7 million or 38 cents per share a year earlier.
