Net income in the quarter surged to $109.6 million or $1.35 per diluted share compared to $109.4 million or $1.19 per share a year earlier.

Sears Holdings Corporation ((SHLD)) decreased 3.3% or $2.54 to $73.31 after the specialty retailer reported first quarter revenues decreased to $9.7 billion compared to $10.0 billion in the same period last year. Domestic comparable store sales decreased to 3.6%. Net loss in the quarter of $170 million or $1.58 per diluted share compared to net income $16 million or 14 cents per share a year ago.

Synopsys, Inc. ((SNPS)) declined 3.5% or 97 cents to $26.76 after the technology solution provider reported second quarter revenues increased 16.4 to $393.7 million compared to $338.1 million in the same period last year. Net income in the quarter surged to $81 million or 53 cents per diluted share compared to $39.5 million or 26 cents per share a year ago.

The Cato Corporation ((CATO)) surged 4.4% or $1.14 to $26.65 after the women’s fashion specialty store operator reported first quarter net sales surged 5% to $270.9 million compared to $259.0 million in the same period last year. Same store sales increased 2%. Net income in the quarter increased to $30.5 million or $1.04 per diluted share compared to $25.1 million or $0.85 per share a year earlier.

The Buckle, Inc ((BKE)) tumbled 13.3% or $6.40 to $41.50 after the casual apparel, footwear, and accessory retailer reported first quarter net sales surged 11.8% to $240.1 million compared to $214.8 million in the same period last year. Comparable store net sales increased 8.1%. Net income in the quarter increased to $33.5 million or 71 per diluted share compared to $30.1 million or 64 per share a year ago period.

Williams-Sonoma, Inc.
