((BCR)) plunged 1.6% or $1.74 to $102.69 after the patient care devices maker reported first quarter net sales increased 8% to $700.3 million compared to $650.8 million in the same period last year. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company ((DD)) slumped 0.8% or 46 cents to $55.45 after the conglomerate reported first quarter sales surged 18% to $10 billion compared to $8.8 billion in the same period last year. Net income in the quarter soared 27% to $1.43 billion or $1.52 per diluted share compared to $1.13 billion or $1.24 per share a year ago.
Honeywell International Inc. ((HON)) fell 0.1% or 8 cents to $60.64 after the diversified technology and manufacturing company reported first quarter sales surged 15% to $8.9 billion compared to $7.8 billion in the same period last year. Net income in the quarter increased to $705 million or 88 cents per diluted share compared to $489 million or 63 cents per share a year ago.
Johnson Controls, Inc. ((JCI)) decreased 1.6% or 67 cents to $40.06 after the provider of automotive interiors second quarter net sales improved 22% to $10.14 billion from $8.32 billion in the comparable period a year ago. Net income in the quarter grew 29.2% to $354 million or 51 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $274 million or 40 cents per share last year.
Kimberly-Clark Corporation ((KMB)) plunged 3.3% or $2.23 to $63.82 after the personal and health care products maker reported first quarter net sales increased 4% to $5.0 billion compared to $4.8 billion in the same period last year. Net income in the quarter declined 8.9% to $350 million or 86 cents per diluted share compared to $384 million or 92 cents per share a year ago.
RadioShack Corporation ((RSH)) slipped 3.7% or 59 cents to $15.24 after the consumer electronics goods and services retailer stated first quarter net sales and operating revenues increased 1.9% to $1.06 billion from $1.04 billion in the comparable period last year. Net income in the quarter declined 29.9% to $35.1 million or 33 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $50.1 million or 39 cents per share last year.
Sohu.com Inc. ((SOHU)) surged 7.2% or $6.95 to $102.64 after the Chinese online media company reported first quarter total revenues climbed 35% to $174.37 million from $129.45 million in the prior year. Net income attributable to Sohu.com rose 48.4% to $44.81 million compared to net income of $30.19 million last year. Earnings per share grew to $1.01 from $0.73 a year ago.
SanDisk Corporation ((SNDK)) gained 3.3% or $1.66 to $50.65 after the data storage solution provider said first quarter total revenues increased 19% to $1.29 billion compared to $1.07 billion in the same period last year. Net income in the quarter fell to $224 million or 92 cents per diluted share compared to $235 million or 99 cents per share a year ago.
Schlumberger NV ((SLB)) fell 1.1% or 99 cents to $88.79 after the oilfield service provider reported first quarter revenue surged to $8.72 billion compared to $5.60 billion in the same period last year. Net earnings in the quarter soared 30% to $944 million or 69 cents per diluted share compared to $672 million or 56 cents per share a year ago.
Southwest Airlines Co. ((LUV)) increased 1.5% or 18 cents to $11.49 after the airline company said first quarter total revenues increased 18% to $3.1 billion compared to $2.6 billion in the same period last year. Net income in the quarter tumbled 54.5% to $5 million or 1 cent per diluted share compared to $11 million or 1 cent per share a year ago.
T. Rowe Price Group, Inc. ((TROW)) fell 0.6% or 41 cents to $63.67 after the financial services holding company reported first quarter net revenues soared to $682.4 million from $556.2 million in the prior year. Net income in the quarter rose to $194.6 million or 72 cents per diluted share compared to $153.0 million or 57 cents per share a year ago.
The Travelers Companies, Inc ((TRV)) rose 0.6% or 41 cents to $61.73 after the holding company said first quarter total revenues rose 3% to $6.29 billion compared to $6.12 billion in the same period last year. Net income in the quarter surged 30% to $839 million or $1.92 per diluted share compared to $647 million or $1.25 per share a year ago.
United Continental Holdings, Inc ((UAL)) gained 3.1% or 65 cents to $21.49 after the airline company reported first quarter revenue soared 10.8% to $8.20 billion from $7.40 billion in the year-ago period. Net loss in the quarter widened 16.4% to $213 million or 65 cents per diluted share compared to $183 million or 58 cents per share in the year-ago quarter.
Verizon Communications Inc. ((VZ)) rose 0.3% or 11 cents to $37.02 after the communications service provider reported first quarter operating revenue edged up 0.3% to $26.99 billion from $26.91 billion in the year-ago period. Net income in the quarter soared 40.8% to $3.26 billion or 51 cents per diluted share compared to $2.32 billion or 16 cents per share in the year-ago quarter.
Xerox Corporation ((XRX)) fell 0.8% or 9 cents to $10.13 after the technology, services and software company said first quarter total revenues increased 16% to $5.46 billion compared to $4.72 billion in the same period last year. Net income in the quarter of $281 million or 19 cents per diluted share compared to net loss of $42 million or 4 cents per share a year ago.
