Bharat Petroleum fell 2.1% after net profit plunged 50%. Everonn Education gained 4% after net profit rose 56%. Mahindra & Mahindra surged 4% and net profit soared 57%. Reliance Infrastructure slumped 19% and Reliance Communications dropped 14%.

The BSE Sensex plunged 1% or 182.93 to close at 17,592.77 The CNX Nifty on the National Stock Exchange declined 59.00 to close at 5,253.55.

Gainers & Losers

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited decreased 2.1% to Rs 586.00 after the petroleum company reported third quarter net profit plunged 50.57% to Rs 187.38 crore and total income rise 13.32% to Rs 36,996.22 crore.

C & C Constructions Ltd slumped 6.7% to Rs 154.25 after the company said third quarter consolidated net profit slumped 78.66% to Rs 3.91 crore.

Everonn Education Limited gained 4% to Rs 502.05 after the educational and training company reported third quarter consolidated net profit rose 56% to Rs 18.95 crore.

Hikal Limited plunged 5.8% to Rs 278.40 after the research and manufacturing company said third quarter net profit slumped 64% to Rs 5.17 crore.

Housing Development Finance Corporation Limited gained 3.1% to Rs 609.55 after the company is planning to sell its investments in unlisted companies to private equity firms.

Honeywell Automation India Limited declined 3.2% to Rs 2,256.00 after the control system provider reported fourth quarter net profit slumped 26.39% to Rs 25.74 crore.

Hanung Toys and Textiles Limited slipped 5.9% to Rs 192.80 after the toys and home furnishing maker said third quarter net profit surged 35.1% to Rs 31.17 crore.

Koutons Retail India Limited plunged 4.8% to Rs 28.25 after the textile products maker reported third quarter net loss of Rs 317.10 crore compared to net profit of Rs 15.80 crore from a year ago.

Mahindra & Mahindra Limited surged 4% to Rs 654.20 after the conglomerate reported net profit excluding exceptional items surged 57.4% to Rs 757.80 crore and gross revenue and other income increased 20.9% to Rs 9,865.40 crore.

Noida Toll Bridge Company Limited decreased 1.8% to Rs 26 after the construction company planning to increase toll rates by 20% from February 15.

Reliance Infrastructure Limited slumped 18.7% to Rs 534.70 after the group''s chairman Anil Ambani met Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal in the backdrop of ongoing 2G probe.

Reliance Communications Limited tumbled 14.3% to Rs 94.85 on reports an auditor examined the company''s books at the behest of DoT has approached the telecom ministry seeking protection.
