Brown-Forman Corporation ((BF)) fell 0.9% or 66 cents to $68.73 after the alcoholic beverage manufacturer reported second quarter net sales rose 1.4% to $905.7 million from $892.9 million in the prior-year quarter. Net income in the quarter climbed 5% to $154.0 million or $1.05 per share, compared to $147.3 million or 99 cents per share last year.
ConAgra Foods, Inc. ((CAG)) fell 0.2% or 6 cents to $22.11 after the packaged foods company estimates second quarter earnings per share of about $0.45 for the quarter on a comparable basis.
Esterline Technologies Corporation ((ESL)) soared 5.8% or $3.80 to $68.36 after the aerospace and defense engineering products maker reported fourth quarter revenues increased to $430.4 million from $390.1 million a year ago. Net earnings in the quarter were $59.7 million or $1.94 per diluted share compared to $34.5 million or $1.15 of per share a year ago.
For the full year, revenues soared to $1.53 billion from $1.41 billion a year ago. Net income in the period surged to $141.9 million or $4.66 per share compared to $119.8 million or $4.00 per share a year ago.
E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company ((DD)) fell 0.1% or 4 cents to $48.28 after the chemicals giant reiterated its earnings outlook for fiscal year 2010 and indicated that sales growth for the year will be about 20%, double the 10% target set by the company one year ago.
Ferrellgas Partners, L.P. ((FGP)) rose 0.5% or 14 cents to $26.15 after the propane and related equipment distributor reported first quarter net sales increased 14% to $400.2 million from $352.1 million in the year-ago period, reflecting rise in wholesale cost of propane. Net loss in the quarter was $27.7 million or 40 cent per diluted share, compared to $32.3 million or 47 cent per share last year.
Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. ((GMCR)) tumbled 11.5% or $4.31 to $33.11 after the specialty coffee maker reported fourth quarter net sales surged 73% to $373.09 million from $215.96 million last year. Net income in the quarter soared 92% to $26.99 million or 20 cents per diluted share, compared to $14.05 million or 11 cents per share in the previous year.
National Semiconductor Corporation ((NSM)) plunged 6.9% or $1.03 to $13.94 after the chipmaker said second quarter net sales rose 13% to $412.0 million from $344.6 million in the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter surged 78% to $83.5 million or 34 cents per diluted share, compared to $47.0 million or 20 cents per share for the year-ago quarter.
OYO Geospace Corporation ((OYOG)) surged 5.3% or $4.53 to $89.90 after the manufacturer of instruments and equipment for seismic data reported fourth quarter revenues increased to $36.1 million from $22.7 million a year earlier. Net income in the quarter to $5.1 million or 82 cents per share compared to net loss of $1.8 million or 30 cents per share last year.
For the full year, revenues soared to $128.5 million from $92.8 million. Net income in the period surged to $14.1 million or $2.27 per share compared to $1.7 million or $0.29 per share the prior year.
Pall Corporation ((PLL)) gained 4.1% or $2.00 to $50.02 after the filtration products maker said first quarter sales increased 10.7% to $605.5 million from $547.0 million in the same quarter last year. Net earnings in the quarter rose 7% to $71.4 million or 61 cents per diluted share, compared to $67.0 million or 56 cents per share in the prior-year quarter.
Vail Resorts, Inc. ((MTN)) fell 0.1% or 6 cents to $52.33 after the holding company reported first quarter net sales grew 190.3% to $234.4 million from $80.8 million in the year-ago period, driven primarily by the timing of real estate closings. Net loss in the quarter edged up $43.0 million or $1.20 per diluted share, compared to $41.2 million or $1.14 per share last year.
