((AEO)) gained 4.1% or 65 cent to $16.49 after the clothing and accessories retailer said third quarter total sales increased 2.1% to $751.51 million from $736.01 million in the prior year. Comparable store sales rose by 1%. Net income in the quarter slid 44.2% to $33.02 million or 17 cents per diluted share, compared to net income of $59.16 million or 28 cents per share a year earlier.
Applied Materials, Inc. ((AMAT)) increased 3.1% or 39 cent to $12.78 after the world''s largest semiconductor equipment maker said fourth quarter net sales surged 89% to $2.89 billion from $1.53 billion in the same quarter last year. Net income for the quarter soared 239% to $468.0 million or 35 cents per diluted share, compared to net income of $137.9 million or 10 cents per share for the year-ago quarter.
Brady Corporation ((BRC)) rose 1.3% or 41 cent to $31.40 after the identification solution provider reported fiscal first quarter net sales rose 3.5% to $329.6 million, from $318.5 million in the prior-year quarter. Net income for the quarter increased 21.3% to $26.3 million or 50 cents per diluted share, compared to $21.7 million or 41 cents per share last year.
Dollar Tree, Inc. ((DLTR)) increased 2.3% or $1.30 to $56.01 after the discount variety store reported third quarter net sales improved 14.2% to $1.43 billion from $1.25 billion in the prior year''s third quarter. Consolidated comparable store sales grew 8.7%. Net income in the quarter increased to $93.2 million or 73 cents per diluted share, compared to $68.2 million or 51 cents per share last year.
Donaldson Company, Inc. ((DCI)) soared 7.2% or $3.68 to $54.19 after the filtration system maker said fiscal first quarter revenues increased 25% to $537 million from $428 million for the same quarter a year ago period. Net earnings in the quarter soared 54% to $53 million or 68 cent per diluted share compared to $35 million or 44 cent per share a year ago period.
DryShips Inc. ((DRYS)) surged 9.2% or 48 cent to $5.66 after the ocean transportation company reported third quarter revenue fell to $222.2 million from $225.5 million in the prior-year quarter. Net income in the quarter decreased to $31.44 million or 11 cent per share compared to $49.28 million or 18 cent per share in the previous-year quarter.
Destination Maternity Corp, ((DEST)) soared 10.9% or $3.84 to $38.99 after the maternity apparel retailer said fourth quarter net sales increased 0.3% to $124.3 million from $123.8 million for the same quarter a year ago period. Net income in the quarter increased to $4.3 million or 67 cent per diluted share compared to $1.4 million or 22 cent per share a year ago period.
For the fiscal year net revenue slightly decreased to $531.2 million from $531.3 million for the same quarter a year ago period. Net income increased to $16.8 million or $2.65 per diluted share compared net loss of $40.7 million or $6.79 per share a year ago period.
General Motors Co ((GM)) increased 7% to $35.34 after the company priced its public offering at $33 a share. The company revised the offering price from the initial offering range between $27 and $29 a share on the strong interest in the offering.
Helmerich & Payne, Inc. ((HP)) advanced 1.1% or 54 cent to $45.86 after the drilling of oil and gas well contractor said fourth quarter total revenues soared to $558.96 million from $358.28 million for the same quarter a year ago period. Net income in the quarter increased to $83.04 million or 77 cent per diluted share compared to $51.49 million or 48 cent per share a year ago period.
For the fiscal year net revenue increased to $1.87 billion from $1.84 billion for the same quarter a year ago period. Net income plunged to $156.3 million or $1.45 per diluted share compared to $353.5 million or $3.31 per share a year ago period.
Limited Brands, Inc. ((LTD)) increased 7.1% or $2.28 to $34.15 after the women''s apparel and personal care products retailer said third quarter net sales increased 11% to $1.98 billion from $1.78 billion in the same quarter last year. Comparable store sales increased 10% for the latest quarter. Net income in the quarter surged 311% to $61.3 million or 18 cents per diluted share, compared to net income of $14.9 million or 5 cents per share in the prior-year quarter.
Netease.com, Inc. ((NTES)) tumbled 3.3% or $1.35 to $39.57 after the China-based online games and advertising services company reported third quarter total revenues rose 59% to RMB 1.4 billion or $215.1 million, from RMB 879.4 million or $128.8 million reported a year ago. Net profit in the quarter rose 49% to RMB 585.3 million or $87.5 million from RMB 393.8 million or $57.7 million in the same quarter last year. Earnings per ADS rose to RMB 4.48 or $0.67 compared with RMB 3.02 or $0.44 a year ago.
NetApp Inc. ((NTAP)) soared 7.4% or $3.65 to $52.90 after the storage device maker reported second quarter revenues increased 33% to $1.207 billion from $910 million in the previous year quarter. Net income in the quarter surged 72% to $165 million or 42 cents per diluted share, compared to net income of $96 million or 27 cents per share in the year-ago quarter helped by strong product and service revenues.
PetSmart, Inc. ((PETM)) declined 3.3% or $1.29 to $36.99 after the pet products retailer reported third quarter net sales increased 7.2% to $1.39 billion from $1.29 billion last year. Comparable store sales grew 5.6% in the third quarter, benefiting from comparable transactions growth of 3.6%. Net income for the quarter increased 20% to $45.61 million or 38 cents per diluted share, compared to net income of $38.07 million or 31 cents per share in the previous year.
Stage Stores, Inc. ((SSI)) surged 6.5% or 89 cent to $14.41 after the specialty department store retailer reported third quarter sales edged up to $331.8 million from $324.9 million in the prior-year quarter. Net loss in the quarter fell 2.1% to $6.86 million or 18 cent per share compared to $7.32 million or 19 cent per share in the previous-year quarter.
Sirona Dental Systems, Inc. ((SIRO)) rose 0.5% or 18 cent to $35.26 after the dental equipment maker said fourth quarter revenues decreased 2.8% to $182.9 million from $188.2 million for the same quarter a year ago period. Net income in the quarter decreased to $24.7 million or 44 cent per diluted share compared to $26.7 million or 48 cent per share a year ago period.
For the fiscal year net revenue increased 8% to $770.3 million from $713.3 million for the same quarter a year ago period. Net income surged to $89.99 million or $1.59 per diluted share compared to $53.35 million or $0.96 per share a year ago period.
Sally Beauty Holdings, Inc. ((SBH)) gained 5.7% or 72 cent to $13.36 after the distributor of professional beauty supplier reported fourth quarter net sales increased 11% to $747.8 million from $676.2 million for the same quarter a year ago period. Same store sales for the quarter grew 5.3%. Net earnings in the quarter increased 56% to $42 million or 23 cent per diluted share compared to $27 million or 15 cent per share a year ago period.
For the fiscal year net sales increased 11% to $2.9 billion from $2.6 billion for the same quarter a year ago period. Same store sales for the fiscal year rose 4.6%. Net earnings increased 45% to $143.8 million or 78 cent per diluted share compared to $99.1 million or 54 cent per share a year ago.
Sears Holdings Corporation ((SHLD)) plunged 5.4% or $3.58 to $62.63 after the specialty retail store third quarter net sales decreased to $9.68 billion from $10.19 billion last year. Net loss widened for the quarter to $218 million or $1.98 per diluted share, compared to net income of $127 million or $1.09 per share in the previous year.
Staples, Inc. ((SPLS)) increased 3.6% or 73 cent to $20.81 after the office product company said third quarter sales increased 0.3% to $6.54 billion from $6.52 billion in the previous year. Net income for the quarter increased 7.2% to $288.68 million or 40 cents per diluted share, compared to net income of $269.38 million or 37 cents per share last year.
Stein Mart, Inc. ((SMRT)) gained 2% or 21 cent to $10.67 after the fashion specialty store reported third quarter net sales decreased to $267.9 million from $270.2 million for the same quarter a year ago period. Net income in the quarter increased to $4.3 million or 10 cent per diluted share compared to $3.2 million or 7 cent per share a year ago period.
The J. M. Smucker Company ((SJM)) slumped 3.4% or $2.14 to $60.86 after the branded food product maker said second quarter revenues flat to $1.3 billion from $1.3 billion for the same quarter a year ago period. Net income in the quarter soared 7% to $149.7 million or $1.25 per diluted share compared to $140.0 million or $1.18 per share a year ago period.
The Buckle, Inc. ((BKE)) surged 7.6% or $2.70 to $37.88 after the retailer reported third quarter net sales increased 5.2% to $243.3 million from $231.2 million last year. Comparable store net sales for quarter ended rose 0.5%. Net income for the quarter rose to $34.4 million or 73 cent per diluted share, compared to $33.3 million or 71 cent per share in the previous year.
The Cato Corporation ((CATO)) rose 0.7% or 22 cent to $28.18 after the women’s fashion specialty store said third quarter net sales increased 4% to $198.0 million from $191.0 million for the same quarter a year ago period. Same-store sales for the quarter increased 2%. Net income in the quarter increased 123% to $6.7 million or 23 cent per diluted share compared to $3.0 million or 10 cent per share a year ago period.
The Children''s Place Retail Stores, Inc. ((PLCE)) increased 2.2% or $1.09 to $48.93 after the children''s specialty retailer reported third quarter net sales fell 2.1% to $453.4 million from $463.2 million last year. Comparable retail sales in the quarter which include online sales decreased 5.7% from decline of 1.6% the previous year. Net income for the quarter tumbled to $31.3 million or $1.15 per diluted share, compared to $37.8 million or $1.37 per share in the previous year.
Williams-Sonoma, Inc. ((WSM)) plunged 7.8% or $2.81 to $32.99 after the specialty retailer for the home third quarter net revenues increased 11.8% to $815.52 million from $729.30 million in the comparable period a year ago. Net earnings in the quarter soared 398% to $36.53 million or 34 cents per diluted share, compared to net earnings of $7.33 million or 7 cents per share last year.
ZOLL Medical Corporation ((ZOLL)) rose 1.2% or 38 cent to $31.92 after the medical devices and software solution provider reported fourth quarter net sales increased 12% to $120.4 million from $107.9 million for the same quarter a year ago period. Net income in the quarter increased 112% to $7.2 million or 33 cent per diluted share compared to $3.4 million or 16 cent per share a year ago period.
